to think that these signs in the back of a car are not nice?

I was behind a car yesterday that had 2 of them baby signs that read 'bitch' on board and 'pimp' on board........i know it could be a bit of a giggle for some if it were a couple sitting there, but it was a boy and girl in their car seats!

My ds asked why anyone would put up such a sign! (the bitch one)(he then asked what a pimp was).

Am i a snob?...lol

i dont understand those of you that think they are smug, it makes you sound a bit resentful... all of the people i know who have them, have them for safety's sake, they may not of got the most basic one, but they certainly dont have them to "show off" thats just ludicrus.

iliketosleep · 06/06/2008 13:05

I had one that said something along the lines of get in sit down and belt up (meaning shush) with a pic of a grumpy kid on, i thought it was pretty funny

MONKEYMONKEY · 06/06/2008 13:16

I have seen ones where your child can design their own so they can put what they want. they could put grumpy parent on board or something.

forevercleaning · 06/06/2008 13:16

not into them at all! Saw a 'mum to be' on board the other day and also 'BABE on board'.

They just seem pointless to me

bamboostalks · 06/06/2008 13:16

I think those baby on board signs are ridiculous, I have never heard of any baby's life being saved because of one. What is their intent, that you should drive more slowly? Most of them are hanging off a string anyway, impact would easily dislodge them. Too cutsie for words.

VinegarTits · 06/06/2008 13:22

I actually drive much slower and more carefully when i have ds in the car and when he was tiny i had a BoB sign, if i see other drivers with these signs i usually give them plenty of space and try not to get too frustrated if they drive slow, because obviously, they have a child on board. I thought that is what the signs are for? (obviously not the 'bitch' 'pimp' ones of course) to warn other drivers who might otherwise get frustrated at you driving like an old biddy.

hellsbells76 · 06/06/2008 13:26

resentful of what exactly? i believe most of us here have children ourselves, we just don't feel the need to shout about it to everyone else who shares the road with us. as for making allowances - frankly if you can't drive safely and competently with a child in the car you shouldn't be driving at all...

pooka · 06/06/2008 13:28

How many people take them out when their child isn't in the car?
I have visions of the emergency services looking at the back window of a car in a crash and thinking "there's no sign or car seat. Let's go"
Or searching for ages when there is a sign, because the person driving hasn't taken it out.
Plus, why the need for the pink princess ones, the monster on board, the "my mum's better than your mum" and all that stuff.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 06/06/2008 13:29

ohh i was going to start a similar ish clothes thread

YANBU, it's wierd

VinegarTits · 06/06/2008 13:33

Hellsbells i still drive safely and compentently when i am on my own in the car, just may drive a little faster than usual, i certainly didnt use my BoB sign to 'show off' i used it because there are some fucking idiots on the road who think the road is a race track and will speed up your arse if you are in their way, a BoB sign just might make them think twice about trying to push you out of the way, but probably not because it seems im the only one who gives more consideration to drivers who state they have 'children on board'

wabbit · 06/06/2008 13:37

'bitch' and'pimp' NICE!!

yanbu... personally, I've not done the signs in the back of the car thing - they p me off a little when I'm driving (don't know why but they do) so would think other drivers would feel the same way.

Spero · 06/06/2008 13:43

Its just so odd on so many levels. doesn't everyone deserve consideration on the road, whether or not there is a baby on board? Shouldn't we all try to drive carefully, no matter what kind of car/driver is in front/behind us??

And if you are the kind of idiot who wants to race/overtake on blind bends are you going to give a flying f* if the car in front has any kind of sticker on it???

Its something visceral. I just hate them. Only one I like said 'baby I'm bored'.

rebelmum1 · 06/06/2008 13:43

I don't get that personal numberplate thing, why spend so much when most of the time you can't figure out what it says, if they're so botherd why don't they just put a sign up with their name on it? Much cheaper if you ask me. They don't seem to have names on the front windscreen anymore..

bluefox · 06/06/2008 14:54

People have personal numberplates because they cant afford to buy new regularly enough! It hides the age of their old bangers! Theres loads of them where I live. Usually suddenly appear on year old cars.

rebelmum1 · 06/06/2008 15:00

eee what's the world coming to?

hellsbells76 · 06/06/2008 15:03

er, vinegartits, i wasn't replying to your post about other drivers - i agree there are idiots out there but if someone's twattish enough to be driving up your arse i can't really see any sign making them back off. i was addressing the idea that BOB signs are some sort of code for 'i have children in the car and therefore won't be giving the road my full attention so give me a wide berth'. if your children distract the driver's attention that much then they're not safe to drive.

nailpolish · 06/06/2008 15:08

my friend is a fireman and he laughs when folks suggest the baby on board sign is for the emergency services

a. they would be quicker looking for a car seat or a child than a crappy plastic sign in the back

b. they look anyway ffs

PigeonPie · 06/06/2008 15:28

Bitch and pimp are horrid, as is 'porn star on boar' which a car round us has, and the bloke does have and transport children.

falcon · 06/06/2008 20:34

I hate those BOB stickers and their many 'cutesy' variations, they practically make me foam at the mouth in rage.

One should have equal consideration for all other road users regardless of the age of the vehicle's occupants.

And the safety thing is nonsense too, it's of very little use, it's much easier to see a child or car seat than a small sticker on a potentially shattered windscreen or mangled wreck of a car.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 20:35

YANBU.

Those things are so tacky and trashy looking.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 20:36

I just saw a personalised plate on 'Police Interceptors'.

It was on a pink Smart Car and read, 'M 700 SXY'.

Classy!

southeastastra · 06/06/2008 20:37

the couple opposite me have a 'babe on board' sign in pink. it's hideous.

i quite like the 'i'm going slow as i have 9 points' stickers

BoyzntheShire · 06/06/2008 20:37

heres mine

wooga · 06/06/2008 21:47

My ds asked "mummy what's a bitch?" outside his school the other day.

Sign on one of the mum's car said 'Caution, I go from 0 to Bitch in 3.5 seconds'
