Curfew for Halloween?

We live in Central Europe in quite a nondescript village. The neighbouring town (now a suburb of the closest city) has one secondary school which serves the town and surrounding villages. We've just been sent a letter from the town council via the school detailing a curfew for Friday evening:
Reminder that parents are responsible for their children.
Reminder that fireworks are forbidden.
All children under age 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
All children under 16 not accompanied by an adult need to be home by 10pm.

Now it doesn't bother me as we don't really do Halloween and I'll be collecting DD by car from her club.
Just a little bit in awe that the school think they can do this ( what happens if they find someone out after curfew?). What would you think if your school sent this out? I guess it's a good idea but seems like they're overstepping.

YANBU - good idea, welcome it
YABU - school/council should have no say in a child's free time.

Well it's not the school is it, it's the town council. You said that yourself. They're just passing the information on, as they have been told to.

Christ, what happened last year?

Christ, what happened last year?

This.

It isn't a fair question without telling us which country. They may well have laws/byelaws which make this perfectly legal and normal.

In scotland we have firework exclusion zones and councils/ police can ban gatherings so not dissimilar.

If there's gangs of little shits roaming the streets and terrorising locals on Halloween, then, absolutely, I would support it.

Have you just moved there? What happened last year? Or is this letter sent out every year.

I don't remember anything happening last year. Certainly nothing that the DC came home gossiping about and nothing on the parental grapevine. Also not heard anything about gangs being an issue in the town.
I'm going to tell the DC to ask around! Someone must know.

I love this,I live in ireland and we would have trick or treaters at all hours..now I think this should only be for primary school age in fairness but oh no the older ones have to ruin it..they come and grab out the bowl, well try too but mot at my door as I won't let them..i live in a street with alot of oldish people and they leave alot out in bowls or baskets and the older kids have got wind of this and come grabbing it all before the younger kids get a chance so they've stopped doing it mow and some are afraid to answer their doors at all..they loved all the little ones calling..thankfully mine have all grown but I've got grandkids now only tiny but I'd have liked to start the tradition with them..so I'd love a curfew for kids to be in by..Great peace of mind for older people
