AIBU for going for the double glazing the salesman convinced me into..?!

Clicked a targeted ad for ‘Help with home improvements’ and had Fitter Windows round to measure and talk to me about windows. They’ve quoted £5k for a complete front door/ 2 big windows/ one small/ 2 single pane. If I add the bag it’s £2k more.

I intended to get the quote and also go to a local provider I’ve had recommended with a showroom near me.

However, the sales man has pointed out the help to buy reduction (which he claims is almost 50%) won’t be around if I take too long to decide.

I feel like I’m being scammed but also it seems like an ok price, and I do need to get the windows done soon. I just want a bit of time to compare and think it over.

AIBU to just go with this form?

Maybe do some research before you sign up...

That sounds like a reasonable price TBH

He’s using pressure selling techniques and for that reason alone you should fuck him right off. I guarantee the ‘deal’ will still be there next week, the week after and 6 months from now.

The one thing I know about double glazing salesmen is they always quote you a high price then give you a reduction to make it look as though you are getting a bargain. And then tell you if you don't decide quickly they can't give you the lowered price. That's the way they operate.

I've had dealings with a few double glazing companies because I've had double glazing installed at three different addresses but I wouldn't like to comment on your quote because I really couldn't give an informed opinion.

I will say though what ever you do avoid Anglian windows .
And as pp advised try and find online reviews.

Take your time and get three quotes. There are various grants about but you can check for yourself when they finish and if you qualify (I think you have to be quite low income.)

I do know that when I had mine done a local (well reviewed) company was much cheaper than the big providers, which is the opposite of what I expected.

Yes I read trust pilot but all the one stars were wxcwpr that one were weird ones complaining they’d missed their appointment or call. Quite a few 5 star reviews. That’s why I’m not sure.

OP, rather than going with this company please join your local Nextdoor group, and ask for personal recommendations for window installers. The important thing to remember, is it's not always about the price, once you've signed on the dotted line, you could be taking on a company who do a crap job and then never come back, leaving you with perhaps an insecure house, and a bill to have their work corrected by a decent installation company.

Many Councils have a list of trusted traders who have been vetted by Trading Standards, take a look here: https://www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk/ or here: https://noroguetradershere.com/

Please DON'T risk using this company, they might be OK, but do you really want to risk it??

Thanks all, I’m going to keep my meeting with the local firm and keep the Fitter Windows lot waiting a bit. Just needed another adult or 2 to walk me through it! Thanks

Oh, and another vote for NOT using Anglian Windows, they are another company who use pressure sales tactics. Anyone who tells you that the 'offer won't be around for much longer', or who says 'I'll just give my boss a ring and see if I can squeeze him for a bit more money off for you', is just playing a game of cat and mouse, and plans to eat you alive! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Get at least three quotes if not more. The more the better for you to pick your best options. Don’t fall for the low price won’t be offered after blah blah. That deserves a blah blah back. I’d put them off my my list for trying high pressure sales tactics. That would put me on scammer alert and they’d be the last I chose.
