Sports Direct Sizing

girlfriend44 · 29/10/2025 16:34

I bought a jacket from SD.
When it got it home there's no way it was the size it should have been. It was smaller than stated.

I googled this and saw it was common with them. Nobody said to me have you tried it on when buying it.
No warning. I found out the hard way.
Anyone else had this?
Wouldn't it be good if people knew before buying?

Should they even be allowed to do this?

Well they sell shit loads of different brands. Surely you're aware that brands all have different sizing. It's on you for not trying it on.

Hollowvoice · 29/10/2025 16:50

Honestly.
I once bought 3 different tops from the same shop at the same time in 3 different sizes and all fitted me perfectly.
Sizing varies so much, why would you not try it on first?!

TokyoSushi · 29/10/2025 17:13

I don’t think the sizing can be anything to do with Sports Direct, they don’t sell anything that they make themselves…

They're also notorious for the absolute bare minimum of customer service so they certainly wouldn’t be concerned whether you’d tried an item on etc.

Arlanymor · 29/10/2025 17:19

I think sizes in most clothes are irrelevant these days - there is no standardisation even within the same brand let alone between different shops. Sports Direct only sell on other brands, there is no way they can know whether sizes come up big/small for every thing they sell for that reason.

Did you buy it in a store? If so, you could have tried it on - you didn't. And as a jacket you presumably wouldn't have had to go to a changing room - you could have just popped it on over your clothes to check if it fitted or not. I think 99% of people would have done that actually, so you're unusual in not doing it.

You can't rely on shop staff to ask if you have tried something on - not least because if it's a smaller size and you look larger... then the customer is bound to take offence! "Excuse me madam, this is a small size.... have you tried it on?!"

Take responsibility for your purchases - try on clothes (if possible) before you buy them and if they don't fit then return them. Waiting now to hear the drip feed reason why this is definitely everyone else's fault and not your own.

Go back and exchange for a different size then!
And next time try it on before you buy it

dementedpixie · 29/10/2025 17:23

And why on earth should anyone check if you'd tried it on? You could be buying it for someone else

NotForTheMoneyandNotForTheApplause · 29/10/2025 17:26

You bought it in an actual shop without trying it on?

I pretty sure that's on you not the retailer

SD don't have their own brand clothes so they, what brand was it?

When my children were younger I bought a lot of sports stuff from their and I can't remember which way round is was but Nike and Adidas were always larger/smaller that you expect for each size on the label

TartanMammy · 29/10/2025 17:26

Sports Direct don't manufacture the clothes so the issue is with the brand

Although sports direct are an awful company and customer service is terrible.

ParkAndThenRide · 29/10/2025 17:29

I can’t imagine any shop asking if you have tried something on. Unless it’s polite ‘ohhh, have you tried this on?’ chit chat.

FionnulaTheCooler · 29/10/2025 17:31

Should they even be allowed to do this?

Given that it's a shop and it's purpose is to sell things then yes they should be allowed to sell you an item you decided to buy.
