To say it's my 40th birthday or not?

I've worked in the same company for 8 years, nearly everyone there is there longer than me. There's always been a collection for big birthdays, about 15 staff members, which I've always contributed to. Now my 40th birthday is coming up and I've never mentioned my date of birth before as it's never come up, so no one knows I'm going to be 40 or even that it's my birthday. It might seem silly and childish but I feel I'm missing out as I've always contributed to others' birthdays.

AIBU - Say nothing
AINBU - drop it into conversation (but don't know how!)

How have people known about the other birthdays? If you want people to know you will need to tell them. Are you doing anything for your birthday that requires a day off? If so you can use that as an excuse to mention it when you put your leave request in.

I think they just all know each other for so long that they remember everyone's birthdays.

Maybe drop it into conversation with the person you are friendliest with, eg say what you’re planning to do for it

Just casually say that you're the big 4 0 soon. Or mention something you fancy doing for your 40th. Do you have conversations with anyone?

When people ask plans for holidays or Christmas or whatever mention something you're doing for your 40th.
