To wonder why some people get so drunk at concerts?

Twice this year I have even to major concerts where the person next to me so drunk they were virtually unconscious, one was a bloke with his wife, it was a sit down concert , he was absolutely out of it and then went to sleep. The other was Oasis, bloke was so drunk he was just in a pile on the floor, didn’t see any of the concert, he like that when he arrived. Why do people do this? The tickets for both were really expensive, surely you want to go and enjoy the concert, not get so drunk you miss most of it and can’t remember it the next day? AIBU?

A singer I like had a big revival after a Glastonbury set. Went to see him in concert and he played some greatest hits from his set as well as his standard tunes

2 very pissed up women being held up by their partners started shouting 'la la la la' to the songs, I asked them what they were doing and they said they didn’t know the words so decided to shout loudly 'la la la la' instead. You can imagine my response 🤣. They didn’t last much longer before being carried out of the gig

My friend saw someone passed out at oasis years ago, she said they tried to wake him and he said ‘I’ll be awake in a while, give me some time’ before security helped him out

I went to a local, seated, tribute concert last night for an 80/90s band. There were some drunk people, one who embarrassed herself. Flashbacks of my youth came rushing back, where the expectation was to get drunk or be the odd one out. I was left out a lot for not drinking to excess. I guess the culture hasn't changed for some.

I don't understand either the drinking or filming, just enjoy the show! I'm assuming the filming is to post online, for likes & envy.

I don't understand why some people bother buying tickets for concerts- drinking, talking to their mates (shouting, actually), alternating trips to the bar with trips to the loo, often leaving about two thirds of the way through. Just as likely to happen at mega expensive events as at small gigs. I am so fed up with it, I really have to be persuaded to go to a concert these days.

Bizarrely it seems to happen far more nowadays when tickets for gigs are far more expensive than back in the day when going to see a band was just a regular night out and relatively inexpensive.

I think that's part of it - people get psyched up for a big night out and end up over doing it - and likely their alcohol tolerance is lower than it used to be when big nights out where more frequent and they were younger.

It's usually the person who has been dragged there by the person who actually wants to be there.

To be fair I'd rather be three sheets to the wind than conscious and aware that I was at an Oasis concert.

Few years ago went to a festival with DPs sister and boyfriend. We glamped so had paid quite a bit. Lots of bands me and DP were excited about. We had a drink but not drunk. It was amazing weather and great line up. Was so excited to stay in posh tents with showers.

his sister and bf got hammered each night. Missed the headliners, couldn’t remember many bands and argued loads with people. Sick in the tents and somehow too hungover to queue for the amazing hot showers. On day 4 only made it to see 1 band, the recent and then stank. We had paid £650 each. What a waste. They should have stayed at home.

no idea how they afforded to get so drunk. It was £6 a pint.

I find lots of people can’t really enjoy themselves without a drink. I have no idea why people need to be drunk at events - it would ruin it for me. I do judge and would choose not to spend time with people who ruined events like this.
