Has anyone seen these ads advertising toilet paper?
my kids keep repeating it and saying i thought ‘crap’ was a bad word.
I've always thought of it as swearing. It is isnt it? 😂😬

I have never seen crap as swearing.

really? Would you be comfortable with your child saying ‘i need a crap’? 😂

Even if you think of it as a swear word, it’s so incredibly mild that I doubt it’s anything most people would worry about.

I don’t know what the rules are around language in advertising but are you sure your kids are seeing this live on daytime TV? Rather than online or streaming or stuff that’s been recorded on a Sky box?

If you made a tentative dinner plan"

yes, just checked my emails and it was you

Weird

Oh I commented on that but it wasn't me.

Nestingbirds · 25/10/2025 16:09

I thought this was going to be a political thread 😂

It wouldn't bother me at home, but they know not to say something like that to a teacher. They are 11 and 8.

CrushingOnRubies · 25/10/2025 16:51

my parents having been using that brand for a while and so as some friends. However the local food bank isn’t keen on it being donated because of how users might perceive it.

PuppyMonkey · 25/10/2025 16:54

I thought Thomas Crapper just manufactured a popular brand of toilet. Hence the name on the toilets became very well known.

Must admit, I did wince at the Who Gives a Crap advert when I first saw it. Not as bad as the haemorrhoid wipes called Uranus though.Grin

Crap isn’t a swear word

MagpiesAreBastards · 25/10/2025 16:59

It may be slightly coarse language, but it isn't swearing.
I actually like the brand though. Have bought a few of their products.

InSpainTheRain · 25/10/2025 17:30

I personally wouldn't think that "crap" is swearing. However, I do think their toilet paper is awful. Cool packaging, but it disintegrates and goes to crumbs. Had one lot and swapped back to Andrex. Swearing problem and crumby paper problem solved by the sweet puppies :)

I am a very sweary individual and broad-minded, but that 'who gives a crap' ad makes me cringe, I don't know why I find it so distasteful, but I do. I mean, I like to sing along with the much-maligned Pepto-Bismol jingle, but I turn into a purse-lipped maiden aunt at the other one.

Dia ria - errr 🤣🤣🤣 The worst ear worm get and repeat 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

agree re the who gives a crap advert too. I’m not against swearing either but it just seems distasteful

It's slang, not swearing. I don't think kids should be encouraged to say "Have you got any scran? My guts are gurgling!" either, nor "Give us a cup of Rosie!" (though it would make me laugh).

SquitMcJit · 25/10/2025 17:38

Not what op asked (the sweary name - which doesn’t bother me) but does anyone know how the eco credentials work with this brand?

I know they talk about bamboo being more sustainable but where exactly is this toilet paper being made and how far is it travelling? I haven’t been able to find a the answer and I can’t work out if this is a genuinely “green option”?

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 25/10/2025 17:40

I actually don’t give a crap

fairislecable · 25/10/2025 17:45

My Son IL subscribed to Who Gives a Crap and was very pleased at the product and price but my DD pointed out the crass wording and insisted they cancel as soon as possible.

The witty marketing ploy obviously fell short of the mark and I do wonder how many prospective purchasers are put off.

Arlanymor · 25/10/2025 17:46

EuroTour · 25/10/2025 15:38

lol he didn't invent the ballcock either..

He didn't? Not the ballcock or the valve or something?! No one wonder I flunked out of Toilet University! 😭

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 25/10/2025 17:48

A year or two ago dd (now 23) said that when she was a child i used the ‘C’ word once

i said ‘i most certainly did not!’

and she said ‘ yes you did…you said clear your crap off the stairs’

Checkcheckout · 25/10/2025 17:50

The company must be loving this free market research thread 🤣

FWIW, if you’re reading Who Gives a Crap, your name doesn’t offend me, the packaging is cool looking but unnecessary, and the TP itself is thin and not soft enough.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 25/10/2025 17:53

It’s not unacceptable in Australia where the product originated.
I love it (and have discount codes…)

It goes a long way!

Clarinet1 · 25/10/2025 17:56

Well I buy it because it’s convenient to have the subscription and the rolls are actually extra long so I think the cost compares well to Andrex or Cushell. Also Who Gives a Crap do a lot of work to support sanitation in the developing world.

In terms of the name, it is a shrewd move to have something memorable and with a bit of shock value.

MagpiesAreBastards · 25/10/2025 18:19

Is Bumboo any more acceptable as a brand? Same concept.

How insular does ones life have to be to get pearl clutchy over a toilet paper brand name, banning it from a household etc.

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 25/10/2025 18:28

I don't mind the name and wouldn't consider it swearing. I buy this brand for several reasons...

They donate 50% of profits to charity partners for sanitation and clean water.

They have bamboo or recycled paper options. I buy whichever is on promo in my chosen supermarket.

I like the wrapped roll and plastic free packaging.

The rolls are double length and last longer than standard.
