I am a health & safety consultant in the construction industry & I really enjoy it. Lots of travelling to different sites and building up relationships with site teams. All men (of course!) but they can be quite funny sometimes 😂 The only downside is the rain but I couldn’t be sat in front of a computer 8 hours a day!

EngineerClaireH · 25/10/2025 17:54

I am a Civil Engineer and i love it. The challenge of finding solutions to problems, designing things that are then built and leaving lasting legacies is fantastic. I have worked across the world and now have the opportunity to work pretty flexibly around my kids. It can be tough and long hours, but worth it.

I love this. A job with an amazing purpose. How did you get into it?

Solicitor in child/family and social security law. I love it. It's shitter now than it used to be due to Legal Aid and higher demand than ever, but I have my first Trainee this year and she's amazing, she has given me a whole new love for my job.

I’m a teacher in a secondary school. I just love it. SLT are really supportive and always think of the staff welfare. The kids are great, it’s the parents that are the problem.

I am part of the multidisciplinary team which assesses children for cochlear implants. We then provide short term habilitation and longer term assessment followed by lifelong technical support.

We are with families as they make decisions with lifelong implications on behalf of their children. We can change lives.

this is just wonderful. You have an amazing job! How did you get into it?

I am in Tech, I absolutely love my job. Run a team who provides consulting to clients to deploy the tech they have bought. Tech changes keep me on a constant learning curve and I deal with such a range of clients. I have found this industry really good as a lone parent, it’s really flexible and well paid.

Fabulous - often wish I had taken this path.

I am an office manager within a large construction company. I am responsible for finances, work distribution and the general overseeing of day to day workload. I work with office Project Managers and Tradesmen in all differing trades. We’re not politically correct, no HR, no rules that you can’t say this and that, can take as many holidays as we want, go to kids appointments/ plays/sports events, go home when we have a delivery or want to bring our washing in when it’s raining and we’re all paid very well. I love it.

Video editor, get a lot of creative freedom, every day feels quite exciting and I like telling a story, I don’t have to do much boring work like paperwork etc, just feels very fun, this is quite company specific rather than the job, but I get a lot of flexibility and my boss is lovely.

Ahh interesting. This is the career I wanted when I was younger. I went to uni to begin my path into it but had to leave for Heath reasons - aways think, what if.

glad you enjoy it regardless of the demand ☺️

I work for the government’s innovation agency, it’s a non-departmental arms length body. My job is to manage the competitive process of awarding grant funding and I love it. I have responsibility, every competition is different and what we do has a direct impact on individuals, companies and the UK economy. I really feel like I make a difference to society

Strewth1 · 25/10/2025 21:24

I love my job more as a result of the pay and conditions are concerned rather than what I actually do.

The role itself is a fairly repetitive albeit senior legal role however it pays well into 6 figures, is based almost 100% at home and is only ever 9-5. I can do every school drop off and most pick ups. I never miss things like my DC’s school plays or have an issue getting to a doctor/dentist appointment. I can take my annual leave whenever I want. I doubt I could ever find another job where the pay vs convenience ratio was so good. I doubt I’ll ever leave until I retire.

WhatDidYouThink · 25/10/2025 21:29

I’m a speech and language therapist, specialising in support autistic children. 25 years in and I still love my job.
I work independently now and have a great work-life balanced

EwwSprouts · 25/10/2025 21:37

I work with volunteers for a charity so everyone who is there has chosen to give their time because they think it's worthwhile. Lovely people. It's a small charity so I have a lot of different responsibilities and there is a surprising amount of variety to my days.

arcticpandas · 25/10/2025 21:43

So happy for all of you who love your job. Wish I could love tech because it seems ideal for work life balance + pay. But I hate it (maybe become I'm so bad at it).

Vvvvvvvvv · 25/10/2025 21:46

I’m a reception teacher in a small independent school and I absolutely adore it. There is increased worry now about finances with the addition of VAT and slowly declining numbers, and I’m paid much less than I would be in the state sector, but I just love my job. Gorgeous campus, hilarious colleagues (mostly…), I adore the infants they are so fun and sweet and unfiltered! I love the pattern and rhythm of a school year, the fact that I finish at 4 and can be there to collect DC and we have all the holidays together. It’s good!

Theredjellybean · 25/10/2025 21:50

I have a very niche job in legal healthcare advisory role to senior ministers , police forces, courts , healthcare leaders in NHS and independent sector...I LOVE my job.
It's varied , it's interesting and every day is different. I travel but can always be at home if I want, I don't have set hours... senior enough to flex my diary to suit...even have a PA, all for me who is wonderful.
Oh and pay is good

missb10 · 25/10/2025 21:53

So many people on here have wonderful inspiring jobs. I love my job too, although it is pretty mundane, audio typing. I find it quite meditative, it takes my mind off my problems and my colleagues are nice too.

I’m an editor for a publishing house, completely remote and keep my own hours. As long as I hit deadlines I can work when I please, and the money’s pretty good. Genuinely the only job I’ve ever had that I love.

Another awesome job that In another life, I would have loved to have done. Good for you 🥰
