To feel like a time waster? A&E related

I woke up an hour ago in extreme severe pain (potentially gallbladder related from 2 prior episodes) and my husband contacted the out of hours GP. Between the triage call and the OOH GP ringing back I was sick and the pain cleared instantly.

Upon speaking to the GP they said it sounds like classic gallbladder / bilary colic (great) and the call handler had noted my squealing in the background of the triage call. The GP said they also work in A&E and would want to see me. Said need to have blood and xray then ultrasound as outpatient. My own GP did bloods a month ago but this Dr said it needs to be when the flare is occurring.

Essentially they have recommended me to go to A&E to have these done today, don't need to go right now but in the morning as the OOH service cannot do bloods or cray.

AIBU to feel like a total time waster going there? Essentially I will be showing up not in pain (hopefully) to request this?

Go
I had similar in January, After 2 years of attacks but this time it felt different. Once I got there the pain eased but my bloods were deranged I stayed in for 5 days and had gallbladder removed.

I wouldn't go. It's nothing that can't wait

With a bit of luck the op went first thing this morning and before the sports injuries.

Time wasting: calling for advice, receiving advice, not taking it, and then using more NHS services at a later point if it reoccurs

Not time wasting: calling for advice, receiving advice, doing as they say and going to A&E

I totally appreciate your struggle, I also have a constant internal dialogue of time wasting whenever I (very very rarely) use NHS services

Yes it is something that can't wait. It won't kill her to wait but by Monday the blood test won't give her the information they want from it.

I was admitted yesterday with similar symptoms. I have pancreatitis so go in and don’t wait for worse to come.

Hi all, I just wanted to update.

I went to A&E (it was quiet and everyone else also looked well) Triage nurse told me was right to come as the bloods need done within a certain period to capture whatever they're looking for.

I was seen by a Dr who said bloods were elevated and basically said he thinks it's gallstones and the associated billary colic but need the ulstrasound to confirm but he would be shocked if it wasn't.

He made a referral onto the surgery team and I'm due to be seen within the next week or so hopefully for ulstrasound to confirm diagnosis. The pain still there although mild for which I have painkillers and buscopan although have been told by others they're a bit useless when the actual attack pain hits.

Also been told by Dr to return to A&E again if needed as depending on situation could be admitted - as others have said above. (which seems to be the only way to get it removed without suffering for weeks and months on end aside from going private)

Thanks for those that said to go and for those, like me who would think to wait - here is some advice for the future: Don't! Just go!

I'm also really sorry to hear of everyone else who has suffered with this, it's truly awful and nothing compares to the pain. I've since spent the whole day in bed just praying it would all go away.

Well done, when I was waiting for my ultrasound my GP told me to really try and keep to a low fat diet, which I admit did help.

Peppermint tea helped me when I was bad too.
