We had a 24 month contract with our Broadband provider. We found a cheaper deal elsewhere, so told our current Broadband provider that we would be switching next month at the end of the 24 month contract. We paid by direct debit and never had an issue. Our current Broadband provider then cancelled our Broadband immediately after this phonecall without any prior warning.
This has left our house without any Broadband. They are not able to switch it back on. We work partly from home and need privacy due to confidential nature of work, so not having Broadband means we now have to find a private room to rent to have online meetings. Our SmartTV does not work. Our alarm system does not work fully as needs an internet connection. Our EV charger needs internet for our overnight charging schedule to automatically start.
Our new provider cannot start sooner as that is the earliest OpenReach slot is in 1 month. One month without any broadband and we live in a remote village, so 4G/5G is poor.
The broadband provider have admitted it was an error and have offered us £50 compensation for them breaching contract. Our monthly bill was £36/month. I do not think £50 is sufficient for breaching contract and leaving us without broadband for 1 month. What amount would you think is reasonable for compensation? Be grateful for any replies! This is not my area of expertise.
