AIBU to think this is a step too far - picky tea, picky dinners, picky bits and now a book about it!

Some guy on Times Radio - I bet he's been lurking on MN.

It always makes me think of scabs 🤢

It was a nice feature. I’m a big fan of the cheese and pineapple hedgehog as was the writer.

I love the idea but that name is horrendous. It is so scab like, but yet twee and smug sounding at the same time 🤢

Yes! I can imagine many MNers primly informing everyone how they had a "HUGE home made salad and picky bits for supper"

YES! And crusty bits picked out of kids’ nostrils.

A whole BOOK? Isn't it usually all the bits floating about in the fridge and freezer that you need rid of?

(I love picky bits, not as a term but as food, because I get mouth-boredom very quickly).

I saw this in the Irish M&S Christmas food magazine! I immediately thought that a MNer was on the staff 😁

’picky bits’ or ‘picky dinner’ has been around for decades though it’s definitely not a Mumsnet thing !

FeralWoman · 24/10/2025 18:22

What are “picky bits”? Not a term used in my country.

Abra1t · 24/10/2025 18:23

I hate the expression or anything food-related to do with 'bits'.

And hate lots of food that lots of people can stick their fingers into. Never used to be fussy and am not a hygiene or food freak, but just don't want to catch anything from other people's hands.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 24/10/2025 18:24

My Nan called a mixed table 'picky bits' but I've always thought it was because it's a tabletop picnic.

Absolutely!

If my mum was alive she'd be 95 and she always said 'We'll have picky bits for dinner', especially on a hot Summers day.
