Bitten by a child

Hello
my son (m9) was accidentally bitten on the top of the head by another child in his class at lunch time yestrrday. School called and we had to collect him as they said it may require stitches. I took him to a minor injuries clinic where the washed the rather deep tooth shaped hole in his head but said they won’t stitch or glue it due to it being treated as a bite and the risk of infection. They have given him a 3 day course of antibiotics.
the nurse asked lots of questions regarding the child the bite him and if I knew the child and if they had their vaccinations. None of which I knew as my son has just started in a new class.
I asked my son to check on his school friend today to see if her teeth were okay etc. my son tells me the child in question has only been at the school a couple of years as they moved here from Africa.
I rang the school this morning and explained the Qs the nurse was asking about if the other child had their vaccinations etc and they said they won’t tell me that.

is this right? I know a human bite can be quite nasty and am I right to ask to know if the other child has had vaccinations? Or am I over thinking and going over board?

thanks

It was classed as a bite but no the child didn’t purposefully bite my son on the head

So not a bite then, just banged their teeth into his head? Yabu. He will be fine.

Pleasegetmeacoffeesotired · 23/10/2025 17:57

Ouch, that poor girl. So your son accidentally head-butted her. I'm surprised she didn't have some kind of injury too.

You aren't entitled to know if the other child had vaccines.

You can ask the medical team to treat your child as if they didnt which they have with Antibiotics.

Not sure what Africa has to do with it.

Different routine vaccinations maybe.

MintTwirl · 23/10/2025 18:03

Ouch that sounds so painful for both children.
The hospital staff should surely be more than aware that you can’t demand the medical information of another child and anything you did know would be anecdotal rather than factual anyway.

londongirl12 · 23/10/2025 18:10

That must have hurt the other child’s teeth so badly!!

coxesorangepippin · 23/10/2025 19:07

So the kid accidentally sank his teeth into another kid's head???

Oh he's from Africa! Voodoo maybe? 🙄

Ldpqndo · 24/10/2025 18:39

I hope the other child is ok, after your child (accidentally) nutted her in the face, could be nasty

FlayOtters · 24/10/2025 19:17

People who are saying how do you accidentally bite someone... me and my husband were in the Caribbean doing that thing where you're pulled behind a speedboat on a couple of rubber rings, and as he fell off he went crashing into me and I got a PERFECT imprint of his upper teeth through the skin of my lower arm - so it's definitely possible!

Oldwmn · 24/10/2025 19:23

BeMintFatball · 23/10/2025 14:21

Accidentally bit hard enough (and long enough) for a tooth to puncture skin???

How would that happen accidentally ?

But sounds like the right advice don’t close wound in case of trapping infection in. Couldn’t ask school for medical details of another child.

Personally I would be demanding the school explain would measures were going to be put in place to ensure another incident doesn’t occur

Easily! If kids have a proper active life unplugged from screens.

This incident should be raised with the school principal / safe guarding. Children of that age should know better than to bite each other.

The age of criminal responsibility is 10, so if this child is 10 you can also report to the police.

Fgs, calm down. OP has said this was an accident - such as happens when kids are playing. Do you want all kids plugged into the machine?

Singlemum45 · 24/10/2025 19:33

If another child bit mine I'd be very angry and want to ensure it never happened again. They're not toddlers, they shoukd know not to bite. My child suffered because she tolerated aggresive children - the teachers basically exploited her kind nature. So she underachieved.

A child jumped back and head clashed with teeth.

TruJay · 24/10/2025 19:50

As unbelievable as it sounds I’ve done this exact thing to someone, my scenario was wearing heels that were too high and had had a few drinks and I fell down ten steps in a night club and my teeth landed directly in the top of my friends head who was walking ahead of me and had already reached the bottom of the stairs! How I didn’t knock my teeth out I’ll never know, it hurt is both like hell!

Borethefuckoff · 24/10/2025 20:14

Surely if your child’s vaccinations are up to date it won’t matter?!

Sorry maybe I should have specified
my son jumped back wards when playing a game with his friend and he wasn’t aware of the other child standing very closely behind him and yes her teeth did break the skin and make a pretty deep incision.

thank you for the useful messages, appreciated. I wasn’t sure if I should be asking or not. I will just leave it for now I think.

im not much of an over thinker unless it comes to my kids 🫣

So she didn't bite him, he headbutted her in the face. By accident.

Singlemum45 · 24/10/2025 21:56

I'm with Freud on accidents.

Your OP reads like a young barbarism from “Africa” has bitten your DC tbh. They have vaccinations in Africa, all 54 countries. I’m sure you’re aware that not all children born here are vaccinated.
If your child has had their vaccinations, shouldn’t that be enough protection for them?

Joloman74 · 25/10/2025 06:27

I really wouldn't worry about it. Your son has antibiotics so that takes care of any infection risk. It was just an accident at the end of the day. School are right not to release confidential information. Chalk it down to another child event / experience.

Lilywc · 25/10/2025 06:38

A lot of diseases can be spread by saliva

DarlingJo · 25/10/2025 06:40

It’s none of your business what vaccinations another child has had.
It’s irrelevant which country the other child was born in.
It very clearly wasn’t a “bite” and it feels like the full circumstances were purposely omitted in your original post.

You’ve now invited crazy people to come along telling you to call the police on the unhinged little black girl. When in reality she’s been on the receiving end of a young boys skull.

This. What an irritating post this is.

The suggestion this is a police matter is ridiculous.
