I've just added all mine together and they equal over £1800 per month excluding grocery shopping. I didn't think I was spending that much but £350 is debt on loans and credit cards.

ShenandoahRiver · 23/10/2025 13:30

All bills and food are £4.5k ish.

MidlandsGal1 · 23/10/2025 13:48

I’d estimate £2000 but I’ve probably forgotten something. That includes rent, council tax, insurance, utilities, subscriptions, phones, prescriptions, treats and nonessential expenses plus groceries for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids 7/4).

SpackelFrog · 23/10/2025 13:55

£4500, including food shopping, pets, utilities etc

Excludes school fees

do you not pay council tax, or water bills?

JadeSeahorse · 23/10/2025 13:56

Just under £1000 but we are retired, mortgage free, paid cash for our car and make lump sum payments - which I haven't included in the £1k - for insurances, water rates etc. Credit cards are paid in full each month. £500 of the £1k is for food, toiletries and alcohol.

Life is honestly much cheaper once you are retired.

LilacPony · 23/10/2025 13:57

4k, sadly

Statsquestion1 · 23/10/2025 14:01

QforCucumber · 23/10/2025 13:55

do you not pay council tax, or water bills?

MiddleAgedDread · 23/10/2025 14:03

Contents insurance £7
Management fee (including buildings insurance) £55
Council tax (includes water) £213
Gas & elec approx £90 (just changed suppliers so hoping it drops!)
Broadband & TV £46
TV license £14.50
Mobile £55 (have just realised I'm now out of contract so will look at changing that)
Car insurance £21
Car tax £17
Car service & MOT (averaged over the year) £17
Life insurances / cover £88
Gym £65
Amazon prime £9
Total £1300
Single adult & income household

I haven't included petrol or bus fares, neither amount to much unless i do a long trip

flummingbird · 23/10/2025 14:06

£1250 excluding food. Lone parent with a 9 year old (and very cheap mortgage). No childcare costs thanks to family doing school pickups. I budget £350 for food and am left with approx £500 for spends and savings

BashfulClam · 23/10/2025 14:08

Including food shopping and petrol etc it is just shy of £2,400. 5 years ago it was £1,900

JBJ · 23/10/2025 14:12

£1250 excluding food, petrol, clothes etc. No mortgage/rent, but does include a loan payment and Prime subscription.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 23/10/2025 14:16

I personally pay

£565 rent
£170 council tax
£15 frozen rats
£15 dog insurance
£5 cat insurance
£12 dog food
£50 debts/credit cards
£350 (estimate) food shopping
£63 bus tickets
£22 son's phone
£15 son's x box subscription

My DP pays

Tv & internet package
Tv licence
Phone bills x 2 (mine & his)
Cars - fuel, tax, insurance x 4 (all his)
Gas
Electric
Water
Dog insurance x1
Meat

I don't know how much his bills come to exactly but it works out about the same as mine.

buffyreboot · 23/10/2025 14:16

£1750 including everything

RomeoRivers · 23/10/2025 14:25

Bills + food: £2500 (mortgage free)

Kimura · 23/10/2025 14:29

About 5k. No kids but a horrible trainers habit :(

jay55 · 23/10/2025 14:29

Rent plus bills around 2300, usually spend around 4000 total a month, am generous with myself right now.

Florencesndzebedee · 23/10/2025 14:33

Bills plus mortgage and car circa £2.2K. Doesn’t include food and other variable stuff like entertainment, clothes, haircuts etc.

Secretdestroyers · 23/10/2025 14:48

ShenandoahRiver · 23/10/2025 13:30

About 3,000. But we have no mortgage or childcare costs.

How do you manage to spend 3k without those things?!

Secretdestroyers · 23/10/2025 14:49

Just under 2k not including food, petrol or any discretionary spending but that includes a large mortgage overpayment.
