To not want to send children to school when there’s a storm

It’s rotten today where we live. Throwing it down with rain all night and this morning, set to continue all day. Winds are strong too, I can see one of the trees along our road has lost one of its branches (not a small one either) which has snapped into the pavement and is partly in the road. I then worry about anything like that happening close to us when walking to school. Fairly certain my youngest won’t even be able to hold her own in this wind anyway lol. I’m not talking about a typical windy rainy autumn day here, it’s far worse than that where we are. Would you keep your children off or not? (Mine are primary school age but question applies for any age really)

So you have PTSD, not anxiety.

I am not taking anything away from what you are suffering from

But every Tom Dick and Harry saying they have anxiety is taking away the seriousness of your condition.

I do suffer from anxiety. Which is mostly under control but was very bad in the aftermath of me being harassed - and I was put on anti anxiety medication. Anxiety can be crippling - I wouldn't wish it on anyone

OP I suffer from anxiety - ignore the rude posters they don't understand.

Hopefully this post has helped you realise your thoughts are on the extreme side, and you are able to recognise them as just thoughts, not realities.

I would send them to school, otherwise every stormy day they might be looking for a day off!

They will also take this lazy attitude into their working life, every day will be a potential duvet day or a mental health day off

It's half term

Not everywhere, our children's half term is next week, other children have had two weeks, this and next.

The OPs child is 4 years old

The OPs child is 4 years old

Exactly, a very impressionable age. If the child is already being taught you can just not turn up for stuff and that a mild breeze is a great excuse to stay in bed, what chance does it have in real life?

Where did the OP say that the child would be staying in bed if they didn't go to school

EleanorReally · 25/10/2025 09:04

is it a yellow or red warning?

BooBooDoodle · 25/10/2025 10:00

I live in Cumbria. Storm alert central, especially at this time of year. Big coat on and get the wellies out. Send your kids to school and crack on.

Roobarbtwo · 25/10/2025 12:09

Her kids did go to school - the OP updated to say this
