Should I get the flu jab?

I’ve got the option to have it free through work

I am not in an ‘at risk’ category and I know people who have felt awful after having this years jab

What would you do?

YABU - have the jab
YANBU - don’t have it, there’s no need

I never bothered until I had flu one year. I was so ill, it just completely floored me. Felt weak for weeks afterwards. I've always had a flu jab since!

rockstarshoes · 22/10/2025 21:19

I didn’t even have a sore arm this year. Go for it!

Paperclipelasticband · 22/10/2025 21:23

Thanks everyone, seems pretty conclusive that I should get it 😊

The one time I had flu was enough for me to know I'm getting the flu jab if it is offered to me. I was horrendously ill and I was only in my 20s so age wasn't a factor. I also feel good that I'm protecting anyone who comes into contact with me.

If you have no underlying health issues that cause you to struggle with vaccinations then you should absolutely get it, its unlikely to do anything more than a mildly sore arm & feel tired 1-2 days. I have ME/CFS for over 10 years. I used to get the jab & it cause relapses for months at a time of not functioning unable to care for my children that’s the sort of logical reason why some of us stop having that jab, then I caught covid & flu a few years in a row & last year decided to have the flu vaccine again as was feeling more robust, I was fine .& most importantly didn’t catch flu! This year I had it 4 days ago, I feel exhausted but am still glad I had it. It’s lowish protection a flu vaccine 60-80% but still better than covid vaccines so may as well protect yourself as much as possible when you have 0 risk factors associated with having it.

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Sharptonguedwoman · 24/10/2025 20:20

I've had this year's vaccination. I'm clinically vulnerable, had no reaction to the jab, if that helps.

CharlieKirkRIP · 24/10/2025 20:25

No.

Worldgonecrazy · 24/10/2025 20:27

Never had the flu jab, never had flu. The only covid jab I had was the one withdrawn for not being as effective as first thought - never had covid either.

PeloMom · 24/10/2025 20:28

I’ve been getting it every year since I was pregnant and will continue for the foreseeable

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 24/10/2025 21:38

I had no reaction to this year’s flu jab at all, not even a sore arm. I can’t recall that I’ve ever had a problem with the flu one though.

Can I ask why?

That's nice. Great contribution. 👏

Gannety · 29/10/2025 14:10

I had it last week, no reaction at all. I would do it, flu is so awful.

ThisLemonHare · 29/10/2025 14:18

The jab knocked me out for about 24 hours this year. But when our family had flu two of us were out of action for a couple of weeks and it was six weeks until we felt fully well again. So the trade off is worth it for me.

Peonies12 · 29/10/2025 14:19

I had a sore arm for a day - flu would be much worse.

Can I ask why?

Because of how it's manufactured and what's it in. In my opinion it isn't safe.

What is your opinion based on? Do you have any experience in this area?

Howlongdon · 30/10/2025 20:34

I’ve had it this year and didn’t notice a thing. Didn’t even get a sore arm.

How is it manufactured and what's in it that makes it unsafe? What are your qualifications to make such a judgment which is so different from thousands of scientists and medical experts?

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 01/11/2025 14:25

I don't think there is anything particularly unreasonable either way. The flu jab has been around for donkey's moons at this point, and if work is paying for it, then you might as well get it.

It's up to you.
