Partly it’s a property one and partly I’m sitting here baffled wondering what her thought process is.
I am a (reluctant) director of the management company for a block of flats, in which I also live. The agents are a bit useless and my co-director is a bit grumpy, so often the agency comes to me with queries. We had a leak earlier in the month, determined to be a stopcock in one of the flats. Agent has been corresponding with the owner trying to get her to fix it as it’s leaking into the flat below. So far, so simple.
Yet the owner is now saying it should be covered by her service charge because it’s connected to the mains. But… that’s how pipes work? All (well, most) pipes are connected to the mains. Both our lease and the water regulators are very clear that if it’s on your property and the piece of piping concerned only supplies you, it’s yours to fix. This has been explained over and over, by both me and the agents, and she doesn’t seem to get it and won’t fix it. Meanwhile, it is causing a nice little rainstorm in the basement flat.
I want to scream. How can anyone think pipes aren’t connected?
YABU - no it’s not obvious that it’s her responsibility
YANBU - she’s being dense, how does she think pipes work?
