Smelly/Pissy cat

Hello, already previously posted in the actual pet/cat section and got some great advice.

However, now just looking for possible solutions from the high traffic area 😅

I have 2 cats, and the elder 5yrs, has suddenly decided that pissing on my painted bedroom floor is the new place to go...

Been to the vets and no obvious pissy cat issues 🤔 bought a new litter tray post pissing on floor. Seems very happy elsewise... I'm much less happy.... Any thoughts

Is anything stressing the cat out.Is a new cat hanging around outside that your cat can smell.
Has anything changed in the house.

Poppyseeds79 · 21/10/2025 02:28

Nope, zero changes. I change the litter bi daily in the hope she'll use the tray (clear daily solids), and wash it out bi weekly. She's still not happy 😅

She didn't have any tray issue before so it's not a new one. She's eating, peeing, pooping as per usual. She's just not wanting to go in the tray like 50% of the time? I've literally watched her use it... So I'm a bit WTF? 😭

Can she smell it? Have you washed it with enzyme cleaner?

Glitchymn1 · 21/10/2025 02:30

Also maybe vet ? Could be medical issue like a bad tooth.

Poppyseeds79 · 21/10/2025 02:33

Been to the vet and nothing showing up .. maybe cab smell it? But then the new place to go seems to be in the corner of bedroom 😒 Which she cries to come into... And then goes. But I keep seeing her using the litter tray in kitchen. So it makes no sense?... Probs lots of cat sense 😅

The OP has been to the vet.

You have two cats - how many litter trays? My two have a litter tray each, as in they have each claimed ownership of a tray and always use the same one. If the other cat has used the litter tray, she may be confused about going in it.

Poppyseeds79 · 21/10/2025 03:13

2 cats but 3 litter trays (1 in bathroom for popping privacy). Ironically she's also "Top Cat", so no worries about her being fearful of secondary younger cat (she's her aunt). And only a 2 cat household.

She's done the peeing down the bath plughole in the past thing. But thought we'd cracked it 7mth ago. Possibly just a reinforcement of bedroom being her space issue, but really weird it's just come up 😬

I'd keep her downstairs for a while. Peeing in odd places can be an early sign of dementia.

She's only 5 😬

Does she go outside? Inappropriate urination is often a sign of stress or something not being right in their environment.
