To think it’s unacceptable for a headteacher….

On a school trip, to remark on a couple of scantily clad young women walking past, to the sixth formers he’s with.

What was the remark? What sex were the sixth formers? The latter obviously doesn't really make any difference. More just curious.

Ticktockk · 20/10/2025 22:37

Yeah that’s not great

Hiptothisjive · 20/10/2025 22:38

If he said thats inappropriate attire then that would be fine. Or I like their jumper. If not then no not acceptable.

Hallamlass · 20/10/2025 22:47

Well, if it happened he's playing fast and loose with his career. I'd say it's unlikely, it's not 1973.

hnwis · 20/10/2025 22:48

Male sixth formers. Comment along the lines of ‘you’ll appreciate that one day’. I’m horrified. I thought schools were meant to be tackling, not promoting misogyny…

No, that’s shocking. I hope it’s been reported

Did you overhear this?

Did you overhear this?

My child did - of course I don’t know if it’s been exaggerated for effect but I don’t think so knowing my child.. and the head in question… not sure it’s my place to report it?

Reporting as hearsay or fact?

HeddaGarbled · 20/10/2025 23:18

You’ll appreciate that ONE DAY? To 17-18 year-old boys? Bollocks.

Screamingabdabz · 20/10/2025 23:26

I wouldn't report it. I’d be writing to him and asking him to explain himself and why he thought that was an appropriate comment. And copy in the Academy Trust CEO.

DrearyDiary · 20/10/2025 23:35

I don't think your boy has understood or reported it correctly. For a start the HT will be well aware that the boys appreciate "it" now.

Before querying if that was actually said?

As in you don’t believe he said it?

OP posts:
DNAwrangler · 21/10/2025 07:38

Must be a misunderstanding surely. I mean he knows that ‘one day’ is already well and truly here for 17 year olds, surely?!

TheNightingalesStarling · 21/10/2025 07:40

Full context? Did he hear the whole conversation? A completely unrelated remark ad they walked past? Was your son the person he said it too?

Someone can not be lying while not telling the whole truth.

Hallamlass · 21/10/2025 07:41

What kind of trip was this? It's exceptionally unusual for a HT to go on a school trip, especially with post 16.

Was it your son who referred to them as scantily clad @hnwis ?

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 21/10/2025 08:22

Did he hear the whole conversation and it wasn't "they need to put on a jumper in this weather, you'll appreciate that one day"

This.

tripleginandtonic · 21/10/2025 08:27

This.

And this makes it acceptable?

That is reporting it, isn't it?

Hallamlass · 21/10/2025 09:03

If you believe this, then you have a duty to report this HT for these wildly inappropriate, misogynistic, sexual remarks shared with school students under his supervision. I don't know you're hesitating.
Contact the CEO of the MAT, or the Chair of Governors and report him to Ofsted.
He's toast.

MimiGC · 21/10/2025 09:22

If you’re in the UK, the young women were unlikely to have been scantily clad yesterday, as it’s been cold and chucking it down with rain all day nearly everywhere. So, if it happened a while ago, I wouldn’t bother reporting it now…I would just bank it and maybe just be alert for any other signs of inappropriate conversation.

Hallamlass · 21/10/2025 09:27

Even if it was a while ago, report it.
This is very serious.
