The great hospital escape

On Day 10 of captivity... currently stuck in the isolation room on a hospital ward (I'm no longer contagious and a lot better) and hopefully can go home tomorrow. I have a pretend window picture to look at, which was nice the first few days but really missing the outside world.... starting to ponder a great escape as I feel like I am walking the walls.

YANBU- Use the dessert spoon and start digging you way out (after you've eaten your apple crumble of course)

YABU- Suck it up buttercup and run for freedom tomorrow

Bacterial meningitis it's not been fun!

Have you been detained for that?!

You should have a window! Did they stick you in a cupboard?

If you're no longer contagious, could you not go for a walk?

Awful illness to get, esp as an adult. I hope you make a full recovery and make the great escape safely!.

I have rarely heard of adults having bacterial meningitis, although obviously I know they do. I had it when I was 23, and unfortunately I got septicaemia and am deaf now. Thankfully I kept all my limbs, but it was looking dodgy for a while. I was in hospital for 6 weeks and couldn't walk properly for ages. Off work for nearly 5 months.

Am fine now, deaf as a post, but that's the only residual thing thank god. Got great hearing aids now, that weren't available back in the day. 😊

I've been told they'd prefer if I wouldn't

In that case I'd be thinking about digging! Hope you're in your own bed by tomorrow night💐

Goodness. I hope you make a speedy recovery 💐
DH recently had six weeks in hospital and was so desperate to come home, so I feel your pain.

Finsburyfancy · 20/10/2025 20:24

I'm glad you're feeling well enough to plot your escape. I was in for five days recently, and me and my bed mate spent a lot of time plotting our exits. She had been there for three weeks. But ultimately the pharmacy foiled us as we were discharged and had to wait for drugs. To fall at the final hurdle!

To be fair, my hospitals are in a bad place (I don’t own them obviously, just work there). We’ve not got to “critical incident” level yet (when I’d get involved) but we’re in “business continuity incident” which is one step down.

That said, A&E was fab for dd3 2 weeks ago when she had a nasty hand injury that needed xray and stitches. We were seen and treated within 2 hours. There’s pockets of good. Hope you make it out tomorrow.
