I thought about putting this in the Royal section but I wasn't sure there would be a reasonable discussion. My concern is about the image being projected by the media focus on titles in a way that sounds silly and off the mark.
AIBU to think the focus on whether it is Charles or William that force Andrew to give up his titles and all this business about stripping titles and on and on about titles is making the monarchy look juvenile? Why isn't the focus on the behaviour of Andrew and what can be learned from this, including how the Royal Family as an institution can have better safeguards and standards for its members? How can such a serious issue be reduced to titles?
It just seems so silly that this is the major focus. There seems to be a competition about who is brave and bold to start stripping titles left, right and centre. What is this suppose to solve? It is the lack of accountability that is the real issue, title or no title. It is also the greed, probably as a result of them not being financially independent enough, that allow some of these royals to chase billionaires, losing their morality in the process.
If the Monarchy is to stay and be part funded by taxpayers, there needs to be an overhaul and it is not simply about titles.
