To be unsure about earning more money?

I know no one can really answer but was wondering what others would do in my situation?

Work 3 short days a week from home - no stress, v easy job, not much to do.

Earn £1,600 - my money pays for holidays, meals out, birthday presents, lease car etc...

Considering going back to career I had before dc.
Very stressful, long hours, anxiety inducing 😅 Would be full time & earning £3,400.

Extra money would pay for nicer lease car, nicer/ more holidays, might chuck OH £500 towards mortgage to get that done quicker.

Don't need anymore money but I guess I want it.

Is it worth it for an extra £1,800 a month?

YABU - step up your pussy & crack on
YANBU - Choose an easy life & no stress/ anxiety

I’m a big spender and money is important to me, but long stressful hours and anxiety inducing for only £3,400 a month?

No, thank you.

Jobs that take that toll have to truly be worth it.

You say OH, if you are not married then earn more to look after your own future, pension and ability to support yourself.

if married, then half his pension is yours, so puts you in a better position

Yes, sorry we're married.

I would say neither - because it’s not a binary choice between 3 short days easy job on not much money or a very stressful anxiety inducing job.

Personally I’d be thinking of the long game. 3 short days just to pay for holidays, meals out etc will do nothing for your pension or long term finances.
Why not look at something inbetween your 2 suggestions? Where you can earn more and
have more of a challenge without major stress?

MCF86 · 19/10/2025 20:37

How old is/are DC? That would be a big deciding factor for me!

LoveSundays · 19/10/2025 20:39

Dc are 11 & 14.

I hear you. But this job (social work) is where I can earn the most money.

I was stopped in my tracks at "step up your pussy". What a vile phrase, are you talking about on-line porn? If not, do whatever you like and fingers crossed our paths will never cross.

Yuk.

🤣🤣🤣 chill out. It's just a phrase from Sex & the City - the female equivalent of picking up your balls.

Online porn....🤔🙄🙄

And I'm fairly sure our paths will never cross 🙏

I thought it a horrible expression too.

Coconutter24 · 19/10/2025 21:08

You already go on holiday and already have a lease car so if the main reason is to have a nicer holiday and a nicer lease car then I’d stick with the hours and pay I have now for less stress

Tutorpuzzle · 19/10/2025 21:12

That expression is grim.

Nickyknackered · 19/10/2025 21:19

Is that all you can think of to do with the extra income? And you 'might chuck OH £500 towards the mortgage?'

Are you really a social worker? Talking like that?

😆😆😆 Yes, I'm really a social worker. Talking like this.
Why on earth 🌎 would anyone pretend to be a social worker....😅😅😅

What about the long term? Pension?

Blanketenvy · 19/10/2025 21:25

Is there not a middle ground. 3/4 days a week in similar role?

Hamserfan · 19/10/2025 21:25

Are you and OH married? If not then you are reducing your current earnings and so reducing your future pension whilst your OH’s financial security is not affected. As the kids are growing up time to look at the medium to longer term not just next Christmas.

TheaBrandt1 · 19/10/2025 21:26

Your kids are about to get extremely expensive especially if they go to university… and need less intense parenting

edgacremeegg · 19/10/2025 21:31

Life’s too short, if you’re financially comfortable already I’d stick at 3 days. And disagree re your teenagers needing you less. In my experience, being around for them is invaluable and youre shortly going to be losing many evenings to playing taxi. May as well get some rest in the daytimes!

rwalker · 19/10/2025 21:36

At 11and 14 there only a few years left then there off and your left redundant

self worth career pension independence and purpose a job and career has a lot to offer

Mumofteenandtween · 19/10/2025 21:39

Could you not bump up to 4 short days for £2000?

seriouslysara · 20/10/2025 20:01

A better paid job but skip the pricey car lease they’re madness, save for rainy days and your kids.

NellieElephantine · 20/10/2025 20:04

Would you be happy with DH dropping salary and work days to 3 short days a week?
