Holiday accommodation-noisy children

Purpleturtle45 · 18/10/2025 09:15

Currently on holiday in the UK at a holiday park and the accommodation is apartments where the back doors are in a courtyard formation with a big grassy area in the middle.

It's obviously an attractive area for young children to run about on. What time would you think is an acceptable time to your kids out in the morning to do this bearing in mind they are right outside other people's bedroom windows?

8am seems reasonable to me. I've got young kids who are often woken up by teens and adults at 10pm plus on holiday. Whilst it's annoying, they're on holiday so I let it go. The opposite time of day with a different generation being disturbed at 8am should just be a go back to sleep job like it is at 10pm. Before anyone comes for me I have to drag my kids out of bed if I need them up before 9 🤣🤣

Thanks. I was woken at 8am by screaming children. There's a lot of nighttime entertainment and as my kids are a bit older we were up late. I wouldn't let my kids scream and shout when coming home late at night so they don't wake others.

I was thinking 9am would be the earliest if being noisy.

Sorry OP no sympathy for you because if this sort of thing annoys you then you need fork out the money for a child free destination.

Can't really do that when I have my own kids with me 🤣

Well then you need to be tolerant or pick accommodations where you’re not sharing with others. 8am is when most kids wake up because they’re on school clocks.

I am tolerant, I haven't done anything about it, I was just asking what other people thought. It's one thing waking up at 8am, totally reasonable. But would you let your child outside and let them scream and shout under someone's bedroom window? I wouldn't allow mine to do that at 8am or 10pm!

Maybe complain to the park and ask them to ask that people don’t make a load of noise before 9am, not unreasonable.

roseymoira · 19/10/2025 14:08

This is crazy to have kids playing right outside your window, isn’t there a playground for them to play in close by?

No5ChalksRoad · 19/10/2025 14:11

Bitzee · 18/10/2025 09:23

I don’t think there is any acceptable time to let kids play and inevitably make noise right outside people’s hotel rooms. I’d take mine somewhere else more appropriate to play. But certainly not before 9am because people without little kids usually expect a lie in on holiday and you’d definitely be disturbing people with any earlier than that.

This.

it’s not a suitable play area at any time of day if it’s right outside people’s windows. Holiday sleeping schedules aren’t the same as when one is at home.

What a bizarre response. Are you a Victorian time traveler?

Why is it bizarre? I completely agree with bitzee I wouldn't want screaming children outside at any time holiday or not. Well behaved ones yes.

No.

Everyone is obliged to be considerate. Parents should take the children for a walk on the beach, high street, nature trails etc, not let them shout and scream near others’ accommodations.

JustTryingToBeMe · 19/10/2025 14:35

I think 8am is too early to be shrieking near people’s bedrooms. Children can play without the noise at full volume. I have noticed (especially since COVID?) that children have no volume control when playing and parents don’t seem to set ground rules anymore. Manners are sadly lacking these days.
Why do parents think that everyone loves their children?

Livelovebehappy · 19/10/2025 14:48

I’d just never go anywhere with this kind of set up. As soon as I saw that several accommodation doors opened up on to one court yard, I would have scrolled on by. So I’m afraid if there is noise early morning, and no doubt the same on an evening, it’s a kind of put up and shut up situation. I sympathise with you though….

It is the children’s holiday too. You are entitled to be childfree. You aren’t entitled to a child free existence.

Hearing children having fun is heart warming.

If you don’t want to hear children having fun don’t go to a family resort.

I despise drunk people late at night. I don’t holiday where drunk people go late at night.

Catsknowbest · 19/10/2025 15:11

I totally agree with this.

If you're letting your children make noise directly in front of other people's rooms at 8 am then you are just selfish and inconsiderate.

Your kids are not the only people on holiday.

JoannaVictoria · 19/10/2025 15:16

They’re on holiday and probably really excited as soon as they wake up.

Cheer up and give them a break

And others are looking forward to a lie in.

If they can’t conduct themselves with consideration for others, they shouldn’t be there.

They can “have fun” elsewhere and quietly. Not right below others’ bedroom windows.

I am not child free, I have 3 kids but I try to teach them to be considerate of others.

I’m thinking noise pollution is 8am-11pm but someone may correct me if I’m wrong, so basically you cannot complain after 8am

Funny on many levels. Firstly, OP has said a few times she has children. And yes, could be heart warming (to a point) to hear children having fun at 10 in the morning, but not at 8 in the morning. Also children having fun doesn’t Trump the enjoyment of others. Ie, normal fun involving laughing and running around releasing energy = fine. Not normal fun where children are screeching and exceeding noise expectations doesn’t equal fine.

Drunk people “singing” at 11pm probably doesn’t make a lot of kids happy at being woken up. They don’t get dragged over Mumsnet though.

And where is that meant to be on a resort. Everywhere has bedrooms.

The children must be seen and not heard brigade are in full force today.

It is 2025 not 1825.

Apples & oranges.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw a drunk person singing, on holiday or otherwise. But I hear screeching children just about every day.

Parents need to do a better job teaching self-control and consideration for others. Fun =/= loud.
