To pull up my dentist on this?

I have a neurological condition where my teeth will hurt and feel sensitive to the point I have ended up in A&E, I also have a central nervous system condition that amplifies my pain.

Anyway. I had a check up booked at my dentist mid Nov. They emailed to tell m it had been cancelled for unforseen reasons. I called to rebook and was told I could not be seen until January, so I booked it.

Now because of my conditions, I cannot diferrentiate between real dental problems and "brain" pain. I need a dentist to make sure I have no real problems. I went on their website and if I was to book a "smile consultation" as a NEW patient, I could be seen by my dentist in Dec.

I'm tempted to email and ask if as an existing patient, can I not have one of those appts in Dec for my check up?
I might not be in pain (hugely) now, but to know my teeth are okay before Xmas would help me a lot.

Tbh, I think in your position I'd just get them all out and spend the money on teeth that won't cause pain OP.

If your re private, you have the luxury of shopping around. Just find somewhere else.

Trust me I have tried but no one will do it.

I cant have implants done

The problem with atypical facial pain and things like eg trigeminal neuralgia is that removing teeth does not remove the pain. Typically people have tooth after tooth removed to no effect before a diagnosis is reached.

Sometimes dentists will be fully booked but will be willing to work ‘overtime’ for new patient consults/facial aesthetics/invisalign consults if they are trying to upskill or develop that area of their skills so they aren’t keeping back secret appointments they are just willing to work extra for a certain type of work.

@Ouchtplease could you tell me more about the condition that causes dental pain? I have an issue with pain in my teeth yet there’s nothing wrong with them and professionals seem baffled by it.
I hope you get an appointment soon.

Do they know about your problems? Tell them you have pain that will usually get you a quick appointment, you don't know if it is real or not that is up to them to figure out.

OP has said they are not in pain but want to be reassured . The appointment was in mid November and has been booked for January now.

If someone is not in pain it’s really not a good idea to get an emergency appointment if you don’t need it .

OP would be better off asking for a cancellation appointment if they want to be reassured before January.

That is exactly what happened to me but each time the dentist I was with then told me that my teeth were cracking and that was the problem.
That was the catalyst for me to search for a diagnosis.

I saw a neurologist who diagnosed me with atypical facial pain or persistent idiopathic facial pain as it’s called. My pain manifests as my teeth feeling like the nerve is open to the air.
Many things trigger it.
Trigeminal neuralgia is another facial pain that affects the teeth.
