These are some of the results: it’s a secondary school: I have no idea whether this is considered good. It is better than a few others in the area.

Overall performance at end of key stage 4 in 2024 - all pupils - 0.24

Achieving English & maths GCSEs at end of key stage 4 in 2024 - all pupils - 59.1

Progress 8 scores at end of key stage 4 in 2024 - all pupils - above average 0.24

No because they are pretty settled in their current school.

MumChp · 15/10/2025 19:45

How is the school?

TheNightingalesStarling · 15/10/2025 19:45

Look at the government website and you will see how the school compares nationally and locally.

FuzzyWolf · 15/10/2025 19:46

Admittedly I am coming from a privileged position where the state secondary schools around me are good but my view is that there is a lot more to a decision to send a child to a school than their academic results.

Vodkascoke · 15/10/2025 19:48

@TheNightingalesStarling thats where I got the data from. How does the data look to you?

How is the school?

It has great facilities, not sure about the behaviour as the neighbours constantly moaning how bad the kids and parents are! I did go to look during school hours and few kids were standing out of lessons (maybe time out?) the tour guide seemed to steer us away swiftly from certain classrooms

Weird post. A very limited bit of research would tell you that these measures are above average. What's your issue with the school?!

BeachLife2 · 15/10/2025 19:50

The academic performance seems to be pretty good. I’d also look at how different abilities perform- that’s on the same website.

Vodkascoke · 15/10/2025 19:52

@sunshineandrainbows78 how is it weird? I’m wondering what others think of this, such as the 59.1% does that mean only this amount pass? I don’t know! I’m new to looking at school

That's more import for you than your first post.

Thank you! So do you think the 59.1% is actually good? I saw it and thought it means 40.9% fail - am I right in reading that? I’m so confused because to me that sounds really bad

OP posts:
Gymrabbit · 15/10/2025 20:00

This is good overall. Anything positive on the 0.24 is ok and means students make slightly more than expected progress.
yes you are right about the stat. It means around 40% don’t get English and maths gcse, but the fact that the progress grade is positive would
mean that many students were not expected to achieve this.

Vodkascoke · 15/10/2025 20:02

@Gymrabbit thank you. I have no brain for data! I find all this so confusing. Is it anything else from what I’ve put up that you can explain too? I can put more data up from compare.gov

OP posts:
User79853257976 · 15/10/2025 20:03

Anything above 0 is good for the first and third measure. 0 is expected progress, anything above is value added.

The English and Maths is slightly under the national average, which is around 65%.

cityanalyst678 · 15/10/2025 20:06

You need to look at the results for students of all abilities. So if you have a comprehensive which takes a lot of students with SEN, they may struggle to get top grades. But if there are students getting straight 8/9s in the top sets, it probably means the school is meeting the needs of all students.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 15/10/2025 20:06

I think that’s about the same % of kids getting maths and English as the school my DC attended, possibly slightly higher. I liked the feel of the school and the ethos and so did they.

they both did well there, got what they needed, and more, for college and then uni. I had no complaints. So yeah, I’d send them.

Vodkascoke · 15/10/2025 20:15

Thank you so much everyone!

Doesn’t look great to me, but perhaps I’m spoiled by our excellent local schools? Local comp:

73% grade 5 or above English and maths, 88% grade 4 or above
Progress 8 0.8

Not sure what your first measure is, or where to find it on the gov website. I mostly look at the grades.

88% is incredible. I’m assuming somewhere leafy with little SEN or EAL as if not that is even more exceptional.

Isn’t that the first stat, so on average students make 1/4 of a grade more progress than expected.

OP posts:
CurlewKate · 15/10/2025 20:29

You need to look at the demographics of the school. Success looks very different if there is a high % of low ability pupils than if there are a lot of high ability. (Sorry- that’s a very clumsy sentence but you know what I mean!)
