A few nice presents or lots of cheap tat?

For children 7 and 8?
I usually get loads of cheapy presents from b&m and home bargains so they have loads under the tree but not a lot of value and most of it is eaten/used up or broken within a couple of months which is fine because I don’t want tat clogging up the rooms for long.

I am thinking of spending the same amount but just buying a few nice things but I think they’ll be disappointed if there’s not lots of things to open and won’t really appreciate the difference in value.

YABU - buy lots of tat it’s Christmas
YANBU - buy a few nice things for the same money,
even though it won’t look as much.

In between. Buy a couple of nice presents and then a couple of cheaper things to bulk it up.

A mix of both? One or 2 decent presents and then a big stocking of 'tat'?

Absolutely just get a few nice things , if you want to bulk up the present pile then get things they need - bath stuff , clothing , backpack , books from vinted are great

I'd go for less things but nicer stuff.

You have another ten years plus of putting presents under the tree and every year the things they want/like/are suitable for their age will get more expensive and make a smaller pile.
It will get more expensive each year to make their gifts take up much space even with tat, so start slimming it down now.

Maybe still get a couple of the cheaper things like a selection box or an annual as well, but mainly better stuff.

We do the much hated poem but don’t really have a budget. We might need one though…DD1 turned 13 this year so might ask for more expensive items.

Nice stuff plus cheap, fun but useful consumables and a small amount of tat, best of both worlds.

Please don't keep buying a lot of tat that ends up in landfill. Your children's generation will suffer for it even more than ours, if these habits don't change. You could give them a couple of nice, long-lasting presents and explain why buying junk is bad for the planet.
