DD is nearly turning 12 - she has complex heath issues and Sen needs.
spends a great deal of time in hospital or travelling to hospitals. Infusions , admissions etc
she is also autistic.
couple of years ago I bought her a pair of 40 ish pound headphones because we were travelling on trains a lot that summer but they have never left her head since - like literally 🤣 anyway they are looking worse for wear and are a little minging ( light pink and very over used ) she loves music it’s her safe space. She asked for what you could describe as as ghetto blaster for her bedroom for her birthday ( she already has a Walkman ) both are mordenised to include Bluetooth so head phones can be wireless but she prefers to listen to CDs over streaming.
she has asked for a new pair of headphones and I don’t mind paying more as she looks after them I know she will use them.. a lot.
nosie cancelling is a huge need.
the prices are soooooo wildly different is there really a big difference in quality ?
im looking at
Bose comfort quiet ultra / ultra 2
Sony WH-1000XM5
Beats Pro ?
they are all very very pricey though are they worth the justification and does anyone have any recommendations?
they will be used at the hospital a lot, travelling, in her bedroom when she is not able to play music out loud ( late etc ) they will probably easy hit 30 hours of wear a week.

I have these - currently having to work in the same room as my kids playing video games, and I can’t hear them yelling at each other. Really good sound quality (I’m pretty fussy) though I’m sure the Bose etc are better, but I’d rather spend £37. Charge lasts ages although I’m not listening all day with them of course.

I spent ages researching before buying the sonyXM4 set. No regrets.
The noise cancelling mode is exceptional, the battery life is insanely long and I love the fact they fold for travelling (I don’t believe that’s the case with the XM5s)

If you do decide on a Sony pair and order them from their site directly don’t forget to use either a unidays code (if you know anyone with a child at secondary school or uni) to get a potential 20% off or a blue light card will get you a discount too.

I second OrwellianTimes' suggestion of Soundcore headphones.
I've had the Q20i, and now have the Space One.

www.amazon.co.uk/soundcore-Anker-Space-One-Comfortable-Blue/dp/B0C6KKQ7ND/ref=ast_sto_dp_puis?th=1

DP has had 2 different pairs of their wireless earbuds and won't leave the house without them.

I find the Space One's noise cancelling so much better than with the Q20i, we travel on public transport a lot and when wearing them can't hear the rumbling of a bus engine, and certainly can't hear if there's anyone else playing loud music without headphones. Sound quality is really good on both too

Both the Q20i and Space One's do have Transparency mode, where you can still hear what's going on without having to take them off. I do believe both sets come with an AUX cable, however since I don't use them, mines been lost in the passing of time. Mine have medium to heavy wear depending on the week, and have hardly ever got a "Battery low" warning (when turned on they do tell you if they need charging with "Battery high/medium/low") and they're reasonably quick to recharge

Which earbud models does your DP have please?

Mixingitup · 15/10/2025 07:13

I have the Bose ones and can confirm they're great. I have used mine every day for 4ish years. When one stopped working last year their customer service was next level too.

He's used the P20s, and Liberty 4s (he has been using Soundcore since 2022)

His P20s were used until one of the buds stopped working due to a lot of use which when he looked into it seemed like a common issue with the P20s.

He's had the Liberty 4s for just over a year, and with daily use, and if/when these ones stop working for him, he'll go for the next set up as he has done since starting using them. (he's also just mentioned while looking over my shoulder that they're excellent with voice calls too)
