How much would you be willing to spend for a week away in Dec?

Dh and I are planning a week away with our very close friends and family for DH’s 40th in Dec. We will find a nice holiday let. For a week how much would you expect to pay for a holiday home/air BnB?

We are comfortable professionals, not gazillionaires but can afford to treat ourselves here and there?

Dh and I are miles apart

Why are you asking me? Am I invited?

😆

5k

Starlight1984 · 14/10/2025 14:18

I'd say at least £2k for a week for 8 adults. But probably double that if you want something special.

AhBiscuits · 14/10/2025 14:20

I would say around 2.5k.

Is he angling for hot tubs and views?

BettysRoasties · 14/10/2025 14:27

A basic caravan or lodge £800 - £1,200 midrange. A cottage or apartment £1,500 - £2,000 again midrange.

Add hot tub an extra £200 ish. Then depending on location you could throw another £400 on. I like sea views or a good Forrest which tends to cost more.

Beedeeoh · 14/10/2025 14:27

I'd say £2-3k for a nice, basic property to sleep 8 adults comfortably.

Then extra for nice grounds, prime location, bbq, hot tub etc depending on the level of luxury you want.

Bottlefall · 14/10/2025 14:46

Is the problem that you're paying for eight so if "feels" very expensive?

I got caught out like this by offering to take DC and their partners on a trip. It cost much more for the extra adults than I'd imagined partly because needing the extra rooms moved the available accomodation into the luxury category.

crazeekat · 14/10/2025 16:15

This all varies on what u want, u can be glaming or a full lodge or manor. Need more specifics.

crazeekat · 14/10/2025 16:17

In a nice place in Scotland u can be looking at 3-4 grand for somewhere exclusive, and this is not expensive compared to some of the beautiful lodgings up here.

we stayed in a very nice holiday let last weekend with a group and it worked out at £250 per person for 3 nights. It was a big property though and we didn't quite hit full occupancy but it was very lovely (practically a castle). All apart from 2 rooms were ensuite or had their own bathroom.

Doseofreality · 14/10/2025 16:27

I would expect to spend around £1k on a basic but clean place and around £5k on a luxurious place:

It’s all relative isn’t it. Depends what type of property you want.

xxxwd · 14/10/2025 18:49

£1000

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 16/10/2025 10:53

Honestly it's sooooo area dependent. 4 beds in the middle of nowhere (literally nowhere, nit the lake district, cotswolds, peak district etx) I'd think you'd get a 4 bed from 1500 for a week but it wouldn't necessarily be nice. A nice 4 bed (as in decor, up to date kitchen, holiday feel) could be more like 2000-2500. If you want to actually go somewhere (e.g. nice countryside, like cotswolds, or near a nice town/city with pubs or things to do) I'd say you're looking more like 3000 plus. Air bnbs now are not much cheaper than hotels, sometimes more expensive, so imagine 4 hotel rooms for a week and the type of level you'd go for (premier inn vs fancy country 5 star) and that'll be your answer. Area is important, I have several 1 beds in the cotswolds area, they go for triple a 1 bed somewhere else and are really busy.
If you go cheap, you get cheap, inattentive hosts, broken appliances, less clean, bad reviews....

Sorry my last post comes across a bit rude. I didn’t mean for it to be so.

We are looking for a very comfortable space that will accommodate 8 adults. We plan to enjoy pub nights, meals out, games, walks etc. I enjoy cooking nice meals

What are your budgets?
