Mini pill woes

Posting here for traffic.
I’ve been taking the progesterone only pill for the last 3.5 years since the birth of my youngest DC. For the first 12 months or so I didn’t have a period-great!
but since then, the bleeding has been sporadic.
im mid 40s and had my hormone levels checked about 6 months ago. All came back fine apart from thyroid(on meds for that and that’s as it should be now).
I’ve been bleeding non stop for the past 2 weeks. Some days heavy, other just spotting. It ranges from brown to bright red. It’s so annoying!
my question is, since I haven’t been sexually active for 2 years and don’t plan on resuming that particular activity any time soon(!) should I just stop taking the pill and let my body regulate itself as I’ve no need to be on any contraception?
thanks for reading

100% wouldn’t be on the pill if I wasn’t trying to avoid pregnancy

Definitely - why would you take it if you don’t need it for contraception and it’s not benefiting you in any other way?

I think this is quite common on the mini pill.

If you don't need it for birth control, and it's no longer stopping your periods, I'm not sure why you'd be on it. Most people would only be on it for contraception or because their periods were bad without it, I would have thought? So if it's no longer helping with either of those things, I don't see the point of you taking it.

The kind of bleeding you describe is also quite common in perimenopause though, so it's possible you'll continue to have irregular bleeding whether you're on the mini pill or not.

I can understand wanting to take the mini pill because you wouldn't have to bother with monthly bleeding.
Some Reasons for occasional bleeding might be missed pills, not takings the tablets at the same time every day or expired medication.
I would come off the pill for 3-4 months to identify the current natural cycle then re-consider starting again if everything is as it should be.
If you find your natural cycle is chaotic, go and see the GP to exclude any issues.

I kept taking it out of habit I guess. I’ve got a phone consultation with my GP next week, but I think I’ll just stop taking it and see what happens. I suspect I’ll have very heavy periods without it, but hopefully they’ll go back to every 28 days…
