AIBU to have dreaded cleaning my own house? (Dust allergy related)

my little one’s always had bad eczema and i’ve got asthma, both from dust mite allergies. for ages i couldn’t figure out why doing a big clean of his room made us both feel worse. i’d hoover, wash everything hot, dust properly… and still his skin would flare up and my chest would tighten for days

then another mum at school mentioned it and i had a lightbulb moment. the deep clean was just kicking allergens into the air from the main source the mattress and pillows. i was cleaning the mess, not fixing the cause

the real game changer was getting proper medical-grade zippered covers for his mattress and pillows. they’ve got tiny pore sizes that block the mites completely

the difference is unreal. his room actually feels safe now, and we don’t get ill after cleaning. thought i’d share in case anyone else is stuck in that same loop

Omg I have the same problem

Do you mind sharing the type / brand of covers you bought?

Thank you

the ones we ended up getting were from a brand called iDustMite. they were a bit pricey, but honestly, they were the first thing that actually made a real difference to my little one’s skin

If your chest is tightening for days after cleaning then you need to get to the asthma clinic and review your meds. This isn't controlled asthma.

And what about the other rooms in your house, carpets, cushions, curtains, all the dust that collects on the floor and kicks up on walking....surely all this is a problem too if your reaction is so severe in your son's room?
