To wonder if lack of covid boosters this Autumn is government cost cutting

And if it is cost cutting , isn’t it a short sighted one? The more people get sick the more the cost to /,strain on NHS?

And wouldn’t it be sensible to “run a please be considerate and wear a mask if you have symptoms?” campaign . Not just for Covid but a cold / cough / sore throat ?

My mum recently had an invite for flu and Covid jabs. She got there and was told she is not eligible for the Covid jab. She is 67.

I don't really understand your comments. I have cancer and my immune system is being hammered by chemo. Why do you think it's OK to make cuntish comments about people like me who are just trying to protect themselves? I can't get my head round that, what difference does it make to you. It doesn't matter if it's covid or a cold, either could have severe consequences for me.

Do you understand what correlation means?

Completely agree. I’m into my third year of hellish long Covid.

I’ve just started to be well enough to go out for very very small drives and even smaller walks. I won’t go inside but if l did l’d mask up.

If l had to spend any more time laying in bed staring at the ceiling in despair, unable to walk down the stairs or make a drink l think I’d top myself. 2 years of it.

l’m not sure what’s adequate about that?

I’m not immunosuppressed. Immune compromised yes, which is perhaps the qualifier in my case. I can’t understand why people with heart conditions etc no longer qualify. That makes no sense to me at all.

Because heart disease etc does not lower your innate immunity. It might make you poorly in other ways but you won’t be clinically immunocompromised/suppressed.

TheBucketFamily · 15/10/2025 20:44

GinaDav · 15/10/2025 17:32

It was like the first wave for me. I had sweats, weakness, migraines, vomiting, blurred vision, and was unable to eat or drink for 3 days. Sorry 😔

oh and a sore throat that never quite became full blown.

Oh dear. That sounds grim. 🙁

buffybots · 15/10/2025 20:51

I was surprised to have no side effects at all this year, had flu and Covid vaccine together in one arm

That’s a really cunty comment

Honestly these idiots are best ignored.

@Delatron France and US offer it freely to anyone over the age of 5. Or they did last time I checked. The UK is a bit of an outlier on this. Re improved vaccines I did read something about successful tests in mice of a nasal vaccine that will stop transmission of multiple strains but it doesn’t mean it wil go on to be successful in humans. They are working on better vaccines though.

I’m sorry. Some people have a really odd response to mask wearing, whether it’s toward someone trying not to harm others or toward someone trying to protect themselves.

So. Gov run this twee campaign, but don't mandate it?

Exactly, what’s wrong with that ? It’s not forcing anyone, it’s just reminding people to show common courtesy. Like giving up your seat to a pregnant lady or old person .
What is sad is we live in a culture where people need to be asked NOT to be selfish and spread germs . Wearing a mask in parts of Asia when sick has been normal for many years

I'm not bothered if people want to wear a mask.
I just don't think others should be expecting others to wear them!

Then the 'asking' can't be the lying guilt trip like this shit.
No wonder people won't buy into the mask mandate!

Ah it’s just mainly our government that’s a bit crap with this then. Very short sighted.

Encouraging to know they are working on better vaccines though..

There is no mask mandate. Just a request for consideration. If you feel guilty by not wearing a mask when you’re sick to protect others then why not just wear one? Do you not care about the old lady next to you on the train? About the guy who looks fine but has bad asthma and even a cold can cause him breathing problems?

It’s about consideration for the old lady next to you on the train when you have a cold etc. if you wore a mask you could minimise the spread of your germs to her. Even if she’s wearing a mask to try to protect herself it’s less effective than you wearing one

Why should I feel guilty? I know nothing about the lady's health needs, or do you think age trumps actual care needs?

I was advised by a neurologist not to have both vaccinations on the same day, but to have them at least a month apart, to minimise the possibility of overloading the immune system and provoking an extreme reaction.

You’re the one who said being asked to show consideration for others by masking up when sick was a “guilt trip”.
Why would you want to infect others if you can avoid it or minimise it with a mask?

The correlation between mask wearers and inadequate individuals is strong.

It’s hard not to have a negative opinion of many of those who wear them.

What is your problem with those who choose to wear a mask? Maybe you’re inadequate 🙄

The pharmacist who did my private one said that the private booster is the most up to date whereas the NHS one they were giving was about six months old. SO perhaps ask before you book your private booster to see which one they're using for private patients.

The NHS is giving Comirnaty KP.2, I believe it's the latest one.

Nestingbirds · 16/10/2025 05:24

I don’t think we should get derailed on the mask aspect. It’s a personal choice.

I do think hospitals should be preparing right now, the rollout of the vaccine needs to be prioritised and expanded. Public awareness needs to be increased with a gentle nudge not a terrifying sledgehammer. If you are ill rest at at home. Not that you can easily go out with this strain anyway.

I feel this government are way too distracted to be paying attention to the juggernaut that is coming right for us this winter.

From next year I will be paying for a vaccine every single year.

My Australian friend warned me it was extremely bad this year when her 19 year old ended up in hospital. I should have listened.

In the US it’s only 65s and over this year and anyone 6 months plus who has an underlying health condition that will make them more vulnerable.

You are right OP. Even healthcare staff are not being offered a booster unless they are over 75, or meet the specific criteria for immunocompromised. My dh (hospital Doc), is nearly 60, no booster for him, this week two of his colleagues from his team are off poorly with Covid. And I don’t just mean they tested positive, I mean properly poorly. This has meant cancelling outpatient clinics and procedure lists.

Same here, @MissyB1 husband a respiratory consultant; no staff on the respiratory wards or any other wards are eligible. He paid for his.
Plus, he wanders all over the hospital, onto ITU, breathes down people's airways doing broncoscopies, etc...
