AIBU to want to eat like a toddler?

I’ve been struggling to eat for a few months now. No medical reasons. I think that I’m just bored of everything. I enjoy the very occasional meal but not many.

I accidentally stumbled upon a vegan toddler lunch blog and thought that it looked perfect for me. I love the idea of having a little of various bits and I’m not going to get a snack tray but I’m contemplating getting a bento box.

I’m not vegan or vegetarian but these are the foods that I’m craving, not meat which I think is losing its appeal and right now the idea of some baked tofu bites, hummus and crudités or roast/steamed veg, chopped fruit and perhaps a little cous cous or seeds seems so much more appealing than a combined meal or even a salad.

AIBU to eat like this and does anyone else regularly eat this way?

If it's what you want to eat, do it!
Sometimes I buy a few boxes of the Iceland buffet food things and have a mini buffet for dinner. I think your idea is probably a lot healthier Grin

Sounds good to me. Eat whatever you like OP. Once, recovering from a longish hospital stay, I had pears, stilton and a lemon drink called "Duchy Refresher" for every meal for over a week. It was all I fancied. Do it!

Go for it! I love getting tapas for dinner if I’m eating by myself, which I guess is a more grown up version!

Thehop · 13/10/2025 19:40

I'm going through a phase of eating those little "party pizzas". Frozen rubbish but so delicious

thisishowloween · 13/10/2025 19:41

I eat like that pretty much all the time. I almost never have full meals unless we're at a restaurant.

ComtesseDeSpair · 13/10/2025 19:43

If it’s what you feel like, do it. Any time. If DH is away and it’s just me at home I don’t usually cook at all - I’ll just buy stuff like cooked chicken, hummus, olives, and Babybels and pick at them as I fancy.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/10/2025 19:44

Yeah, I eat tapas almost every meal. Hate plates of food.

Meadowfinch · 13/10/2025 19:56

Do it OP. Veg, fruit, seeds, fruit, salad. There are stunning flavours to be had and you'll feel loads better. 🤗

LivingTheDreamish · 13/10/2025 20:01

Yes eat exactly what you fancy OP! Food is meant to be pleasurable as well as fuel. What you are suggesting sounds healthy anyway so I don't see any downside.

NuffSaidSam · 13/10/2025 20:04

Possibly the most pointless AIBU I've ever read!

AIBU to eat the food that I want?

No, you're not OP. Eat whatever you want, in whatever portion size you want, out of whatever box you want.

TheNightingalesStarling · 13/10/2025 20:09

I read the title, remembered when my now teenage daughter just shoved her whole head in the apple crumble dish when we said she could scrape out the remainder... and thought I'd love to just eat apple crumble like that.

FlowersInPots · 13/10/2025 20:33

Today for lunch me and my 3 year old had hummus, breadsticks, carrot sticks, lettuce, corn on the cob, chopped ham, coleslaw then yogurt and some chocolate buttons for dessert.
We do it semi-regularly, chosen by him but he’s always delighted if we have the same and I quite like it.

Eat what you want OP.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/10/2025 20:37

I have a yumbox which is similar and I make a batch of fritters, the recipe is from a blw site.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 13/10/2025 22:09

I now often order two children’s meals when I’m out with my toddler so much cheaper

DinoLil · 13/10/2025 23:25

I could have posted this! I've gone right off food, can only manage half a microwave meal, tops. Gone off meat. But I'm so happy with a couple of crackers, cheese, coleslaw, carrot sticks, celery, tomatoes, hummus, apple with peanut butter...

My social life involves going out for meals but I can never even manage half. I bring home a doggy bag and it ends up in the bin or the guys on the table finish it off. One guy deliberately sits next to me in hope!

How old are you, OP? I'm 54 and have been like this for a couple of years so wondered if peri has anything to do with it? I also live on my own and can't be bothered to cook.

All sounds very healthy. I thought you were going to say you were living on chicken nuggets, smiley faces and baked beans.

I had Sainsburys fish fingers and cheesy beans for supper with tomato sauce and mayonnaise. Absolutely no excuses ie toddlers, feeding grandchild etc but can I say it was bloody delicious 😋
