The cost of gym clothes!

Aibu to ask where do you buy your gym gear if you’re a gym bunny?

My DD is 20 and goes to the gym or runs most days. It’s her birthday soon and amongst other things I was going to get her leggings, sports bra etc but all the brands seem so expensive (gymshark, lulumon etc).

Is there anything that’s still cool for a young person but won’t break the bank?

Not for a birthday but some of the Primark stuff is amazing. They do some of the softest most comfortable high waist leggings I have ever worn for about £11

A pair of joggers from Asda and a Tshirt is more than good enough. There's no need to spend money on stuff for the sake of going to the gym.

It’s really not. Apart from the fact she’d stand out like a sore thumb gym wear is much more comfortable and suitable.

I use M&S gym wear - might not be your daughters choice but it pretty much the same as the expensive ones

I came on to say this but I'm in my 50s. I love their sports gear

Yeah, because that's what a teenager/20-something will want to wear, isn't it? Hmm

It’s a gift. For her 20 year old daughter. Do you just buy the very basic, ugliest stuff you can find for your loved one’s birthday?

Personally I enjoy putting my gym outfits together (and I’m not young) and I don’t want to sweat my arse off in a pair of joggers.

I was going to suggest H&M as well @Summerbay23 Thats where my 25yo dd goes.

I used to buy sweaty Betty and lululemon but now I buy adidas. The Stella McCartney range is lovely.

Don’t get Lululemon or Sweaty Betty… definitely aimed at an older crowd.

I don’t think they’re aimed at an older crowd. It’s more that young people have been priced out of these brands and looking for cheaper brands.

mrwwhite · 13/10/2025 17:26

i would get Oner over Gymshark just because it’ll feel more special for a present

Nitgel · 13/10/2025 17:28

Uniqlo but I'm in my 50s and wear the same items every time I go. Dh calls it me PE kit

LadyWiddiothethird · 13/10/2025 17:32

I get all my gym clothes from Sainsbury’s.Not sure about buying from there for a birthday present, but worth a look.

MidnightMeltdown · 13/10/2025 17:32

Looking at leggings, gym shark are literally half the price of sweaty betty. I imagine that’s why young people are buying them. Same reason that young people are more likely to shop Primark than Cos. No idea whether or not the quality is comparable in this case.

They’re all wearing Anadola, Alo and others aren’t they sweaty betty/lululemon are pretty much ‘mumwear’ now

Where I live Adanola, Sweaty betty & New balance are what my mum mates and I wear (40’s). Younger ones are Alo, Lululemon, Nike, Gymshark, Adidas etc.

Adidas have a decent sale at the moment.

Bandersnatchling · 13/10/2025 17:34

Another vote for H&M Move - Uniqlo has some good pieces too.

She's 20 and it's for a present.
She's not cleaning the house

VanCleefArpels · 13/10/2025 17:37

Sports Direct by far the cheapest place for branded items

TattooStan · 13/10/2025 17:38

I get mine from Sweaty Betty but a youngster wouldn't want to, and a pair of leggings is £90. I guess they wear Halara if they're on a budget.

Addictforanex · 13/10/2025 17:39

Came here to say H&M but I see lots of other PPs have beat me to it.

Newmeagain · 13/10/2025 17:43

Honestly, there is no point buying some random item from primark or tkmaxx if it’s meant to be a present.

if you don’t want to spend much then just get her a gift voucher (for an amount you can afford) for a brand she will actually want - e.g. gym shark. Then she can top it up and buy something that she likes and that fits. (Speaking as the mother of a gym addict.)

dragonmummy · 13/10/2025 14:43

I buy mine on Vinted - Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, often still with tags attached or as new but much, much cheaper than RRP.

Fellow vinted lover here, fraction of the price! Xx

MightyGoldBear · 13/10/2025 17:46

I've found pep and Co in poundland good actually, not sure if they would be considered cool although they don't really have any branding on them so 🤷🏼‍♀️

EwwSprouts · 13/10/2025 17:46

Agree TK Maxx. Also our nearest McArthur Glen has Sweaty Betty and Under Armour shops.

Redpeach · 13/10/2025 17:48

Bam are lovely and soft

AConvivialHost · 13/10/2025 17:50

In addition to the Aybl and Anadola recommendations, try Tala and Born Nuoli.

HermitageWay · 13/10/2025 18:02

I agree! And the quality doesn’t match! I only
buy Sweaty Betty on sale, never buy Lululemon (wouldn’t pay that much for gym gear) or yes like other posts try Vinted ‘new with tags‘

guestofclanmackenzie · 13/10/2025 18:15

Glowmode on Shein is amazing and a fraction of the price! They are dupes of Adanola.
