AIBU to think finding out I have annual leave left and being excited about cleaning is peak adulthood?

Sat down last night to work out my annual leave, factoring in Christmas/New Year etc. I was on maternity leave for half the year, so wasn’t 100% sure what I had left. Turns out I’ve got 3 days still to take.
My immediate thought? Brilliant — I can finally catch up on housework! Not “ooh, a midweek city break”, but “I can deep clean the bathroom and tackle the laundry mountain.”

AIBU to think this is what my life is now!?

I knew my youth was behind me the first sunny Saturday I was happy to get 3 loads of washing dried on the line.
All those years desperate to be a grown up…

To be fair I love a good drying day and I have done since I was 21!!

Actually, OP, I think there is something quite nice about finding the joy in simple things. I know I am in a good place mentally if I am excited to try a new fabric conditioner or if I feel happy looking at the beautiful autumn colours on the tree outside my house. I think this is what being content feels like. Not bursting at the seams level of happy - but just enjoying every day. Whether is my morning coffee, hanging out with my dog, reading to my son, dancing to music whilst cooking. I’m so grateful to feel this way after what feels like years of anxiety.

Sorry, you probably weren’t looking for such a deep answer! But I hope you enjoy your extra days off 😊

I know exactly how you feel OP. I’m due my second baby next month, thought I had already allocated out my annual leave before/after my maternity to extend it and was happy with that. To my surprise then last week my manager got in touch to ask when I was going to take the other 4 days of AL before I go off, I didn’t even realise I had 4 days left to take, so I’m going to treat myself to 4 days off to nap and tidy😂

I don’t think there is a man alive who would use his holiday up on cleaning.

If it makes you happy, well I guess that’s fair enough.

But not unreasonable to do something that you and you alone really want to do, not just scrubbing the house. Ignore the call of martyrdom I guess……

Ooh, i dont know. A bank holiday weekend coupled with a trip to B and Q is a hard one to beat!

@VanGoSunflowers that is a beautiful way to look at life. Also not trying to be too deep but I have been going to a counsellor for nearly a year now. And feeling more content in myself is an amazing feeling.

@Jellybunny56 TAKE as many naps as you can! The end of pregnancy is very hard. But also I was quite unprepared for how difficult 2 vrs 1 would be when they both demand your attention. They are wonderful but hard!

@Comtesse DH is a farmer, he only takes a day off when I absolutely insist. But you have a point. I have a 1yr old and 3yr old so heading off anywhere alone overnight wouldn't be fair. But there is nothing stopping me from doing a nice day trip somewhere I want to see but that is unsuitable for kids.

@Fangisnotacoward I have recently become a fan of B&Q 😂
