JMC kangaroo

My DD is a student in a good all girls SW london Indie which has a broad mix of talents and claims to value STEM success. This year my DD sat the JMC and qualified for the Kangaroo which I think is a good achievement as boys normally do better at Math, yet the school said nothing. No mention in the school newsletter, no presentation in assembly, nothing. It's like it never happened.

Earlier in the year they mentioned IMC success. Just feels a bit unfair on the younger kids. Or maybe just sloppyness at the school?

Is this normal?

AIBU to expect some acknowledgement just to give her a morale and motivation boost for the future? I fear that my encouragement alone may not be enpough in the future.

My child got silver in the kangaroo last academic year - only two children in her year got through to the kangaroo stage and she got the highest mark. Absolutely no mention by the school, nothing in the school newsletter or social media just a crumpled certificate. She worked so hard and revised loads for it, I do feel as though the school should have celebrated her achievement as it really is quite unprecedented for girls to reach this level in our school. Your Daughter should be very proud of herself and I think the school should quite rightly celebrate her achievement

There you go, you've found each other on this thread. It's a celebration! 😀

I used to find that the kids who did well in the maths competitions were not particularly keen to have the certificates presented in assembly. What I did try to do was to get the head to go and present them in their maths lessons, so they got a round of applause from those of their peers who knew what it was all about.

Newsletters can sometimes be a question of the member of staff organising the entries remembering to submit something to go in the next issue. I seem to remember that DD (who usually beat the boys) got a mention in newsletters in some years but not others, seemingly at random.

😂

Seriously; I don't get it. There isn't a school out there who doesnt want kids who are good at Math. The least they could do is celebrate an open goal.

RJ2025, we didnt even get a crumpled certificate.

My DD got into the JMO and got distinction. No assembly or certificate, but I didn’t care as it is easy and half the school got through

Just for future reference @SWmom1 if your child has achieved something noteworthy you need to actually speak to or email whoever it is at school that runs the FB page or newsletter and tell them .
