Undercover police having sex with targets

If you haven’t caught up with the spycops scandal, there is an inquiry going on atm.
I went to a talk from some of the women targeted this weekend. All of it was shocking but what left me astounded was that the men would have got overtime if they stayed overnight with their target.
Lots more details are here:

And there’s an action that it would great to get to at least 10k but even better there would be a debate of it got to 100k

Personally I view sex like this as rape. These women would not have consented to sex with these men if they knew who they were.

If consent is given on the basis of particular facts, and those facts are false it is rape in my book. We see stealthing as rape, because consent is given on a particular basis. I dont see this as different. The grounds for consent were false.

Tallestone · 13/10/2025 12:33

Yes I agree this is rape they wouldn't have consented if they knew who they really were. It's so bad.

Burntt · 13/10/2025 12:39

I agree. This is rape

Absolutely blows my mind that the state are going to all this effort to infiltrate animal rights groups. How was this level of undercover involvement was ever justified I don't know.
Thanks for highlighting the issue op.
I'll never forget reading in the Guardian about a member of Greenpeace marrying an undercover cop, had children with him and then one day he just vanished without trace. Truly shocking and awful practice.

Animal rights groups were issuing threats to kill, and use of explosives.
They weren't just targeting labs either, but going after the supply chain workers. So the lorry drivers delivering food for the staff canteen, those servicing their toilets and sanitary bins etc.
Them and their families were fair game for some.

So you think that justifies what these undercover cops did to unsuspecting women?

And infiltrating these groups to stop this activity and protect the public was absolutely right.

Raping women as part of this, under the guise of investigation was not. It is absolutely abhorrent.

Did I say it did.

See my above comment where I said it is state sanctioned rape.

Christ, try to read before jumping down someone's throat.

Apologies, I did do that didn't I.Mist read thread properly before going off on one.

Interesting to see people here are saying they feel this is rape, but I’d like to know if that’s how it would be interpreted by the law if it is prosecuted as sex by deception.

To be clear, what the officers did undercover is utterly reprehensible and life ruining. But people mislead others about themselves all the time and it isn’t considered rape. Men lie and cover up having whole other families, and the women who are taken in by it are arguably just as devastated by the experience. Is this rape too?

Regardless I’m really glad to see this issue coming to light and getting support.
