Anyone have any ideas of things to do with my teen DS? We are going away with no phones and no tv. Just me and him

I’m thinking games or conversation topics or scavenger hunts.
We will do lots of walking, just two days away. His idea so don’t start saying he will hate it! He loves walking

Uno, monopoly and boggle are popular, Lego? Treasuretrails.co.uk have some great treasure hunts you can print off covering most of the UK I think, they are good.

Oh good call thanks! I’ll look that up

Scrabble, charades.
My daughter and I are happy to sit and read together. Used to do that with my mother when I took her away.

Oh reading yes! Hadn’t thought of that. Will bring books

Can’t beat a pack of cards IMO

A new lego set that’s quite large and challenging so it’ll take a while to build. Baking kits. Go to a toy shop/toy aisle at the supermarket and choose a couple of new board games together. Every evening you can recap the day and each give your ‘high’, ‘low’ and ‘lol’.

P0PTARTS · 12/10/2025 09:25

Lego yes!

Sorry for crap link, it works but is long!

BuffaloCauliflower · 12/10/2025 09:33

How about a big puzzle to tackle together? How lovely that he wants to do this with you.

sashh · 12/10/2025 09:44

Self catering or hotel? If the first then a shopping trip and cooking. You have to eat so make it fun.

Find the absolutely worst souvenir and buy it.

Are you driving? If so then a couple of board games, some have already been mentioned. Some form of craft? knitting / crochet.

Take torches and tell each other ghost stories in the dark with the torch under your chin.

Take a camera, an old fashioned one with film or an instant one and make a scrap book of the trip when you get back.

Geocaching to give your walks something to look for.

For board games, I would suggest looking in charity shops for a game in really good condition rather than brand new.

Mine liked playing Trivial Pursuit and also Chess, but I'm not good at Chess so that wasn't fun for them.

What about jigsaws? I loved doing those at that age.

dudsville · 12/10/2025 10:32

Life has changed so much. About 25 years ago I went on holiday to a place with no electricity. I do read and am also happy to sit quietly or chat, but your post had made me realise that I would feel some angst today going on holiday without my phone!

Yes! Defo will bring one. I think we are sorted now. Thanks

This sounds like such a lovely break for you and your DS to simply enjoy spending time with one another. I hope you have a wonderful time @P0PTARTS!

If you are near a city, check out Virgin Experience Days - Great Outdoor Treasure Hunt. Fab for exploring new places and finding out about the area
