Am I crazy that I expect my husband to switch off the lights in the toilet ?

I just need to know if it is really me who is in the wrong here and just a little petty. Please help !

Just to give a little context.
my husband never switches the lights off in the bathroom after switching them on ( in the day time - another thing why would you put them on in the first place). The same with not closing the cabinets in the bathroom ( he keeps his cosmetics in there so opens it at least twice a day) and also never closes wardrobe doors after taking clothes out.

if have asked him occasionally to close them, but most of the time I just do it and say nothing. It started started irritating me lately so I decided to let him know each time he does it, so he would be more mindful of it.

after one day he told me I was being petty and just looking to find something to pick on. And then he stopped talking to me after calling me Mrs. Perfect.

Am I really being petty ?

My husband does this with the bathroom light too, and I don't understand why he puts it on in the daytime! It's weird, but I haven't managed to change it so I just roll my eyes quietly now 😂

Take the bulb out every time and put it in the shed at the bottom of the garden so he has to get it back.

I don’t think husbands can turn bathroom lights off. In the same way they can’t put the empty toilet rolls in the bin. I just don’t think they can physical do it.

Take the bulb out. Or get an auto bulb that alexa can check if its on every half hour and switch it off.

He's doing it deliberately to wind you up. Some people are just mind-fucking nasty people who think it's funny to do that.

I bet he does other stuff that is disrespectful to you or your time.

Mine does this too with his drawers in the chest of drawers so it's hard to open my drawer underneath without scratching my hands. So I then leave my drawer pulled right out so it's in his way to get passed, two can play that game.

We have a light bulb on a sensor the bathroom so it goes off after a few mins. That could solve one of your issues.

I would be more concerned about why he needs to reapply his cosmetics so frequently. Does he have self image issues as well not leaving rooms as he finds them?

I put a bulb with a motion sensor in the bathroom. Mine has no windows so it does need light in the day. OP and second poster just get a bulb. It won't sort the open cupboards but it's a start.

The only problem is when my dad visits he keeps switching it off!

Is the extractor fan linked to the light switch? If so, putting the light on - and potentially leaving it on for a decent amount of time afterwards - may be necessary for ventilation and very much to the benefit of the next person to use the bathroom.

Yeah, I bought Tapo bulbs for my elderly mums room, she was forever falling asleep without turning the lights off.

I got the bulb and set an alexa routine, where by it switched off the bulb every half hour from 2am - 6am that way, if she woke up and voice activated it to switch on, it'd switch off after half hour.

Only me that assumes by cosmetics the OPs means face wash, tooth brush, tooth paste etc, more toiletries then actual cosmetics?

I was also going to say. It’s a well known ADHD trait, but obviously along side many others. Not on its own.

There are many things like this about my OH that irritate me. And there are many things like this about me that irritate my OH.

I decided ages ago that if I didn't want to be picked up on the stuff that I do, I can't be picking up on the stuff the OH does.

So I stopped getting uptight about it. It was really difficult for about a fortnight. and then it became easy. I'm happier and less stressed and it's rather liberating.

That's entirely worth an extra few quid a year on the electric bill.

In the league table of annoying shit men do, this is quite low down imo.
I get the argument from mine that you use more energy switching them off than leaving them on. Don't know if that's just in his head though. 🤔

DH puts the light on in rooms on his way out ‘so they are on ready for him when he gets back’

i now have smart switches so j can turn em off from my phone. Makes me feel whole lot better. Don’t think he has noticed yet.
