To expect my mother to buy me clothes in my size?

Well very very long story here but I am a very happy and curvy bubbly size 20, have been for most of my adult life, now in late 30's.

My f'ing mother has yet again brought me clothes in another size.

Now this goes back years and so do all of the comments about my size, weight, etc blar, a whole nother story, and I do not want to sound ungrateful but come on, just because she cant stand the fact that her daughter is a larger than life size I have to try and fit into these clothes.

Recent gifts, a dressing gown in a size 14, a t-shirt in a medium, a jumper in a size 16, etc etc.

She has just come back from a trip to the States, with my sister, and brought me a FANTASTIC t shirt, that actually I took one look at and loved it instantly, it is a NYPD one, but it is far too small!

Sorry for the rant but grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr she pisses me off!

Why don't you say - these won't fit me?

Do you tell her that the things she buys you don't fit?

belgo · 04/06/2008 15:52

you have to tell her - don't buy me clothes because they never fit me. She's wasting her money.

sitdownpleasegeorge · 04/06/2008 15:53

ebay it and spend the money on something that fits.

Don't hesitate to tell her, unless of course she buys you this stuff because your real size is classified information

billysitch · 04/06/2008 15:54

Nope to be honest I don't tell her, she doesnt live near me so it is easy to hide. I know cowardly but we dont really get on and I shut up to keep the peace with the other members of the family who think I would just upset the applecart.

I sympathise - my mother does the same in reverse - buys everything in a 16/18 and I'm a 10. When I say I'm a 10 she looks at me up and down and says 'Really? But you've got quite a big bottom though, haven't you?' Gee, thanks mom! But since DS is born she has stopped buying me things and buys for him instead, which is actually a relief! It was horrid when I was a teenager at home and she bought my clothes - I was swimming around in everything and felt such a frumpy loser.

We need to either swap clothes or mothers

whoops · 04/06/2008 15:54

Oh dear, I would say give them to me but they wouldn't fit me either

Ask her if she meant it for your ds or you or muddled your sisters up with yours!!

billysitch · 04/06/2008 15:56

Never made a secret of my size SDPG, in fact she even asked my last Christmas what I would like and I said, dont worry about clothes mum, save your money.

I got a wrong sized jumper, but from M&S and asked her for the reciept as it was the wrong size, but she said she didnt have it!

It was lovely too, brown fluffy thing.

Have you ever said to her "I'm a size 20 in case you're wondering"? I know that sounds really obvious, but maybe you're one of these people who carries off a larger size very well. Maybe she actually does think you're smaller than you are?
I know I've looked at clothes in shops and correllating what they look on the hangar to the size of the person they fit. ... They just look wrong. (the clothes not the people)

DirtySexyMummy · 04/06/2008 16:01

You do know that you can take things back to shops and exchange them for different sizes without the receipt, don't you?

Since you don't see each other much, are you sure she actually knows you are a 20? Maybe she just thinks you actually are a 16?

billysitch · 04/06/2008 16:01

Hi misty, yep she knows in fact she even jokes that as my two sisters are both 10's two of them makes one of me!

DSM, yes did that with the jumper at M&S they were very helpful but had none of them in our local large store so gave me a voucher, which I spent, so all was not lost that time!
