To eat this pasta bake tonight?

Argh, made a lovely pasta bake last night and did enough for tonight as well as today is going to be manic so won’t really have much time to cook.

We ate half of it and it was on the side, cooling down. I put cling film over it, with the intention of putting it in the fridge once cooled (as I usually do)

Came down this morning and realised I’d forgotten to put it in the fridge Sad I did so straight away when I realised.

Do you think it would be okay to eat tonight or should I bin it?

I'd bin it

Lex345 · 11/10/2025 09:32

I think it depends what is in it. If its pasta/cheese/tomatoes and you will be reheating properly, it will likely be fine.

Seafood or chicken it would be going in the bin for me.

Katemax82 · 11/10/2025 09:33

It's probably not worth the risk tbh, you could get sick, you could be fine but I wouldn't gamble on it

VoodooQualities · 11/10/2025 09:33

It will be absolutely fine. Just heat it up tonight until it's piping hot throughout.

The only thing that will have happened overnight is a small amount of bacteria will have started to grow in it, and heating it up to nice and hot will kill all of these no problem.

Tiswa · 11/10/2025 09:33

What is in it? I would eat my veggie pasta bake in this weather as also don’t have heating in my kitchen so would never have gone above a temperature

if it had meat in it probably not chicken definitely not. Canned tuna possibly

Zanatdy · 11/10/2025 09:34

I think it will be ok, as long as not too hot in your house. But sure many would bin it

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 11/10/2025 09:34

It'll be fine to eat.

AzurePanda · 11/10/2025 09:34

Unless your kitchen is unusually warm it will be fine. As others have said, just make sure it’s piping hot.

TheCurious0range · 11/10/2025 09:35

I'd eat it unless it was seafood, just heat it up well

dementedpixie · 11/10/2025 09:35

What's in the pasta bake?
How warm is your house at night?
I'd just reheat until piping hot tbh

TappyGilmore · 11/10/2025 09:35

I’d eat it.

Tagyoureit · 11/10/2025 09:35

It will be fine just ensure its heated up properly.

PicturesOfLily · 11/10/2025 09:37

As others said, it depends what’s in it. I once made myself really ill by doing this with a tuna and prawn one! I accidentally left it out overnight and put in the fridge in the morning. The real problem was that I took it for lunch at work and didn’t reheat it enough. It might have been fine if heated properly but I was so ill for 5 days that I wouldn’t risk it again!

thisishowloween · 11/10/2025 09:37

I’d eat it and have done plenty of times over the years. Never get sick.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 11/10/2025 09:38

Depends what's in it.

We're veggie, and I think a veggie bake would be fine overnight assuming your house isn't massively overheated.

I don't know much about storing meat or fish, but I reckon that would be much more risky.

Confusdworriedmum · 11/10/2025 09:38

I wouldn't risk it. You could be really unwell. If it's meat or chicken absolutely don't risk it but I'd throw it anyway. Just order a takeaway tonight if there's no time to cook.

throwawayusrname · 11/10/2025 09:39

I very frequently eat things that have been out all night, no problem at all. Am vegetarian though.

SomeLikeitSnot · 11/10/2025 09:40

I’d eat it. We leave stuff out overnight all the time and have yet to die! Just heat well.

Same here, but also a vegetarian and my kitchen doesn't have any heating so it's about 2 degrees warmer than my fridge

BlueBoatVillage · 11/10/2025 09:41

It was cheese and bacon pasta bake! Argh! No heating on in the kitchen overnight or this morning, normal room temperature

crumpet · 11/10/2025 09:42

I’d eat it. In fact I may make a cottage pie mix this evening and leave it to cool overnight for tomorrow

It’ll be fine.

GreyCarpet · 11/10/2025 09:43

I'd eat it.

I made a chicken curry on Sunday and did the same - left it out to cool and forgot about it.

I put it in the fridge on Monday morning and ate it on Tuesday evening.

I'm still here.

Shoxfordian · 11/10/2025 09:43

I probably wouldn't eat it just because of the meat in it

Bobiverse · 11/10/2025 09:43

I wouldn’t. But my gran did this nonsense all the time and I had so many jippy tummies after staying with her as a child that I just can’t stand the thought of it now.

I also remember that awful story of a student at uni who left a pasta dish out for 3 night, heated it up for dinner and then he died from the food poisoning after. One night is obviously very different from 3 nights in a warm uni dorm but I just can’t 🤢
