Honestly. I've been so ill with a stomach bug for the last 2 days and I was just starting to come round and feel human again when DS 5 had the absolute cheek to be sick at school. Honestly. Why can't kids just let you be ill in peace every now and then?! Now I have to adult until his dad comes home from work!

What a fun weekend you have ahead of you!

We're in a similar situation here at the moment, so I feel your pain. Although this is nothing compared to the time I had gastro, my husband was away for work and I had an exclusively breastfed baby to take care of. I remember feeding on the toilet!

Tea and sympathy coming your way. Sorry about gastro gate too!

You’d think it was obvious… 🤦🏼‍♀️

Unfortunately some people wouldn't recognise a joke if it danced naked in front of them singing "hilarious jokes are here again"

Most people joking in AIBU make that clear by saying lighthearted. I’ve read numerous posts these last few days about parents no longer wanting their kids, so if it doesn’t say lighthearted I’m assuming they’re serious.

You absolutely do not have to put “lighthearted” to make it clear it’s a joke. I’ve been on MN for almost two decades,

Most people on MN have enough about them to understand when things are humorous.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 10/10/2025 17:29

💯 They're very selfish.

Iwantsandybeachesandgoodfood · 10/10/2025 17:29

OP I think you need to tell your son that because you are also ill, he must look after you and put your favourite programmes on and serve you. 😁 Good luck! Kids being ill when you are too sucks. Hope your husband gets home soon and you get a rest.

Zezet · 10/10/2025 17:34

As a punishment for this impertinence the child does not get to have the TV. Therefore, you can have it to watch whatever you want.

Feel better soon.

Work9to5 · 10/10/2025 17:34

God, there's some right humourless people on here this afternoon. Go and suck a lemon why don't you🍋

Deliveroo · 10/10/2025 17:35

You got 2 whole days? Sheesh! Mothers these days are so entitled.

In my day when we got d&v, we had to walk uphill to the loo in both directions carrying all ten children.

He’s probably faking it.

I would have thought that people would be able to tell a thread is quite clearly a joke without a bloody lighthearted disclaimer.

Perhaps they need "warning - coffee may be hot" signs too.
@Movingtodarkestperu i hope you both feel better soon.

Just wait till the dressing gown of doom makes an appearance

I am very slow with recognising humour, ASD, but the OP was very clearly humour even to me.

looselegs · 10/10/2025 18:48

Oh, how very dare he! So inconsiderate! Cancel Christmas as punishment!

Just a bit of unsolicited advice, if they’re sick in bed make sure you swill all the lumps off before putting the sheets in the washer dryer or you end up with something resembling woodchip wallpaper. Hope you’re all feeling better soon.

Thats good advice. We have, unfortunately, had sick before (older ds as well). Main worry is he has thrown up in bed before and either not woken up or not told us. He seems to be feeling better as hes been zooming round and demanding toast lol

Really?

Yes really - it’s been horrible to read so to go quite literally from a thread where a woman was saying she didn’t want to parent her baby anymore to this, I took it at face value.
