My sisters boyfriend is the most dodgy person I have ever known in my entire life.

He says he owns a property. I don’t believe for a second that he does.

I want to buy the £7 title plan from the gov website to find out life information about this property.

I just want to know if whoever owns the house could possibly
find out that I’ve done so? If they can, would my information be shown?

I need to be careful as this guy is potentially dangerous, while I’m pretty certain he doesn’t own the house, he will know the owners so I just want to cover my back.

Thank you

@DiscoBob but now OP has proof of his lie, she can hopefully ensure her parents don’t give him any more money.

No chance.

The sister and parents are clearly gullible, vulnerable and easily led. If it’s not this chap, it will be someone else.

So anyone can randomly access a copy of anyone's title for any house? Wouldn't identity theft be an issue?

Only copies are provided
and a copy means squat all in terms of ID purposes

Getamoveon2024 · 10/10/2025 07:37

I do it fairly often. Came in handy recently when the “buyer” of our house said the delay was due to him struggling to sell his house. Land registry showed he didn’t own it at all and he was in fact a total fantasist!

Notthatgameagain · 10/10/2025 08:01

It's just like purchasing anything else. He would not know

You can also buy a copy of anyone's birth, marriage or death certificate from the gov.uk website.

Puzzledtoday · 10/10/2025 08:07

It’s public information, not owned by the property owner. He won’t be told.

There’s absolutely no chance my parents are going to get their money back. They both know that.

There is a hell of a lot more to this story, I wouldn't even know where to start. He has conned every single member of my family in some way - myself included.

my next step is to go to the police and is truly believe my mum could be in danger

You said he’s not violent, yet you fear your mum could be in danger. What danger does he pose? Have you alerted the police?

ItsSoHot · 10/10/2025 08:10

daisyflowersx · 09/10/2025 10:02

I’ve done it, he doesn’t own it as suspected. I don’t actually think he knows the man who owns it either.

clares law is my next step. I don’t think he is violent, he’s actually extremely shy and doesn’t say much but I know from personal experience that means nothing.

I need to gather as much information as I can at the moment.

Just a word of caution - Land Registry are running on a huge delay at the moment, so if he bought the property within the last year, there is a chance that the record might not be correct.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 10/10/2025 08:16

@ItsSoHotmakes a good point. You should be able to do an Application Search against the title number though to see if there’s any applications pending. Think that’s free of charge too.

Not danger through him, danger of whoever else he might owe money too.

yes I’ve got an appointment at my local station.

I suspect to people like your sister and parents OP, you could go to them with a dozen files of evidence against him and they’ll look at you blankly and say “but he’s lovely, what are you going on about @daisyflowersx

Edited

My parents know he’s not ‘lovely’.

My parents are working with me to try get the truth.

They are not gullible - I can’t say too much as I really don’t want the whole story putting on here. This had been going on for 18 months now. It’s an extremely tricky situation, also with children involved.

Myself and my dad are going to the police station together. We have all been gullible around him at the start but none of us are anymore. We just have to be extremely careful how we approach it.

Thank you for that.

He’s apparently owned this house for years. I have googled how accurate land registers is (clutching at straws) but as the house was apparently bought by him years ago, it should be accurate.

What is his crime? Genuine question.

Lying about owning a property?

Thatmoves · 10/10/2025 12:44

Is your sister still with him??!

Andprettygood · 16/10/2025 07:27

What did the police say? @daisyflowersx
