Still waiting for adhd medication!

28F. I went through right to choose, a company called problem shared, and got diagnosed in January. since then I’ve only ever been told that my adhd medication needs to be approved via an appointment with a prescriber.

I’ve tried to contact multiple times and they say to just keep waiting.

my friend suspected adhd and was referred last week. She was seen and diagnosed on Monday and she started medication today??? Apparently he just did it there and then, and gave her a prescription.

honestly I feel livid and I have no idea where to go next. I emailed my company for an update 2 days ago and have heard nothing, and their phone line is always busy. Do I contact my gp? Or perhaps the company my friend used?? I just feel so upset knowing I’ve waited 10 months and my friend got her diagnosis and medication within 2 days!

Sorry OP I don't really know what you should do as I'm not in the UK so don't know the system - but that is really bad that they've kept you waiting so long. They're really not fulfilling their duty to you as a patient. I think if I were you I would call everyone you're suggesting because even if they can't help maybe they can give you some pointers how to proceed. Is there anyone higher up or independent you could make a formal complaint to? Would it be PALS or is that more for hospital inpatients? Good luck anyway. Sorry I can't be of more help. Keep going as it will be worth it when you can get medication

Can you explain. Was this via the NHS ? Like a private company contracted to provide diagnostic services ?

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 09/10/2025 05:59

I’ve just looked at their website and they say, if diagnosed with ADHD, your clinician should discuss with you about medication and that access to medication through them is subject to clinical assessment, a GP referral, and approval by your NHS provider, insurer or university health service. Perhaps, as a service, they’re overwhelmed with the number of referrals and diagnoses they’re dealing with and are just disorganised with going from assessment/diagnosis stage or whether they’re reluctant to actually prescribe for whatever reason.

This is a link to their complaints procedure as you may need to go down that route if you’ve been waiting since diagnosis in January for them to move to the next stage of the prescribing process and don’t feel you’re being listened to/heard.

I was diagnosed in October last year and have only just started my meds. There was a wait due to medication shortages, but I was warned about it at the time

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/10/2025 16:13

My dd was diagnosed last year and started them the same day.

Theres no medication shortage now.

I was assessed and diagnosed at the end of June and started medication at the end of August. Unfortunately, you do need to research the wait times of different RTC providers before you ask for referral.

If it's an NHS assessment, you get them straightaway. If it's right to choose, you end up on a waiting list for the prescriber. My daughter was told 12-18 months. 9 months in currently.
