One year diabetes symptoms!

Hi all,
I’m worried about my one year old. He seems to drink a hell of a lot of water a day. I’m talking 1 litre plus. Wees a lot but this could just be the fluid intake. During pregnancy i had gestational diabetes with him and I still have my glucose monitor, stupidly I’ve tested him earlier and his level is 3.6. I can’t seem to find accurate info for his age. I’ve phoned 111 and awaiting a call back.

any advice??

take him to your gp or a&e for proper tests. It could be the start of it, or it could maybe not be diabetes at all.

Without any intention to be narky - are they the only symptoms? Do you have anything causing health anxiety? Because your baby is thirsty you're panicking - it seems a little unreasonable.

A 30 second google comes up with:
For healthy infants, the normal blood sugar range is generally 3.5–5.5 mmol/L (63–99 mg/dL),

Gestational diabetes increases the risk of getting type 2 diabetes for YOU it does nothing for the risk for your child.

111 have phoned and 3.6 is low for his age. We are now on our way to hospital. I was told that there is an increased risk for mum and baby.

This is not accurate - gestational diabetes can also increase the risk that the child will develop type 2 diabetes. The better controlled the GD was, the lower this risk is, but the increased risk is always there (though small).

Well done for getting this seen OP - hopefully nothing to worry about but always worth seeking medical input for anything that might be linked to diabetes. Wishing all the best for you.

let us know how it goes, my 9 year old is type one so if you need any advice just give us a shout x
