Investigations following blood in urine

Re-posting here for traffic, no response on Women's Health Board.

I recently had a several UTIs, a little blood in my water, plus other symptoms that my GP thought could be kidney stones. So I went for a CT scan of my kidneys, urethra and bladder. This came back clear, and for the past few weeks all my symptoms have cleared up. So given I had a clear result from my CT scan, can I assume there isn't any cancer in my kidneys, urethra or bladder? I don't think the doctor was suspecting cancer, but it has crossed my mind a few times. I assume cancerous growths show up on a CT scan?

Anyone?

I had microscopic blood in urine 8 years ago. I had to have a cystoscopy to check my bladder under 2 week pathway. I think cystoscopy is the gold standard. It's probably good news CT scan is clear though

Thank you for replying. I got the impression that the CT scan showed nothing that warranted further investigation, ie if something had shown up there may have been further tests (cystoscopy) to take a closer look. I wish I’d asked more questions now but it seemed “case closed” at the surgery

PS - did they find out what was causing your blood?

They never did find out the cause. I had 2 samples with the blood trace in so I was referred. My sample was clear at my cystoscopy appointment. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/bladder-cancer/tests-and-next-steps/ says cystoscopy is the main test. For blood in urine, I'm surprised it wasn't offered. Hope you get sorted

The blood usually coincided with the first day of a UTI, and the surgery didn't seem worried sbout this, maybe the infection explains the blood?

And just to add that when I took a water sample to the surgery they didn’t detect any blood, but sent the water sample off, and said that if the lab found blood (but they didn’t) I would be asked to provide a further sample and if 2 samples had blood, that was a trigger for a referral, if that makes sense?

UTI could very well explain the blood OP.
From the GP's point of view, there is a big difference with someone presenting with blood and an infection and someone presenting with blood but no evidence of infection.

Yes , that’s basically what the nurse practitioner said

But I’m assuming that the CT scan would have shown anything dodgy

A CT scan would show if there was anything to be concerned about. I think given you had a clear CT scan you have nothing to worry about. Blood with a UTI is common
