Poster yesterday talked about being sad that jobs required qualifications and despite the fact that she can write reasonably well, discussed her inability to get basic qualifications. She described being unable to process information and remember faces and names and failing GCSE's again and again. Some replies were trying to be helpful but some basically told her she needed a different mindset, could try again, ask for more help, or had she been lazy at school etc.If it had been their kids with issues mumsnet women would have been very different but an adult woman got some unthinking and sometimes insensitive advice.
The poster had been proactive but was now despairing. Some people can write well but cannot recall faces or remember people and have to be told repeatedly the same thing. It is very frustrating for people they work with but it is not their fault.I know this as a teacher who sees some kids who will never be employable, except in very simple jobs and sometimes not even then. They can come from all classes.Tech has not always made things easier for them
.They can present as reasonable and employable on the surface.Mumsnet (like society) expects people to conform and all learn and operate in the same way.It is not because they are lazy or stupid but they simply cannot do what is asked of them.We are all very different and learn differently.Show some empathy
