Tissues should be banned!

Why?

Dark load of washing ... Need I say more?

Hankunamatata · 07/10/2025 09:51

No you just need to punish the culprit (side eyes dc number3)

socialdilemmawhattodo · 07/10/2025 09:55

Punish the perpetrator! And yes that has included me at times!

Seeline · 07/10/2025 09:55

I knew that would be your reason😆

Why is it always the dark load 😭

Port1aCastis · 07/10/2025 09:56

Yes punish the culprit and then put the washing in the dryer and the filter will catch a lot of tissue debris, shake off remaining debris in the garden(if possible) or out of the window.

Somethingsgottagiveeventually · 07/10/2025 09:56

It's most likely DH, he's been trained but still has 'accidents' about twice a year. I'm banning tissues and buying hankies.

What a pain!
I did this yesterday and there is loads of tissue still in the back pocket of jeans but obviously the tissue is in lots of tiny pieces. I don’t have a tumble dryer. Is there anything to do apart from sit and painstakingly pick it out? Have tried a lint roller.

isthismylifenow · 07/10/2025 10:01

Into the tumble dryer, and then hang out to finish off if you can. While hanging, put on some rubber gloves and wipe the flakes off.

You would think I would not fall for this again after having to do the above, but I bought some of those Kleenex car tissues, and it come out the other end of a wash as a complete clean tissue! So I am only buy those going forward.

SparklyGlitterballs · 07/10/2025 10:01

I came on to say don't be ridiculous but then saw your reason. Yep, been there and felt the pain.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/10/2025 10:01

Noooo! Cloth hankies are revolting.

Jollyjoy · 07/10/2025 10:02

So annoying. Sometimes it’s a minor thing and sometimes it’s got bits on every item. The worst was when a nappy accidentally went in the wash 😱

This!

I'd rather deal with tissue fluff, than days old, crusty, crackling, yellow, dried snot full germ ridden cloth hankies.

gross

Reachedthefinalstage · 07/10/2025 10:04

Well i certainly never ever would want to go back to the pre tissue days of my childhood when the whole family used cotton handkerchiefs.
Just the thought of the bucket of snotty handkerchiefs being soaked prior to washing makes my stomach heave. Absolutely disgusting.

Occasional tissues in the washing machine are a blooming pain in the neck but infinitely preferable.

Errolwasahero · 07/10/2025 10:04

@SparklyGlitterballs same here 😅

Bottleplant · 07/10/2025 10:05

I don't buy the boxes of tissues, only the little packs. I find they don't break up so badly. I guess if you're going to be completely single use with them, that would work out expensive, but I'm not...and they're about £4 for a pack of 30 packs in Lidl.

When I had a terrible virus earlier this year, I was converted to hankies. I think there is a time and place for them, i.e when the tissue has rubbed your nose raw and you just need a clean piece of cotton to dab dab it.

I knew all those gifts from my Nana (with everyone else's and not my name initial on them, bless her) would come in handy.

Yes! And those square box ones that many people use in the car.

They are solid tissues and can withstand a round without falling to pieces.

I'll keep 1 box in the hall cupboard out of view from man vision just incase of colds or flu.

Kids are older now so less grossness. And if hankies are used in the same fashion as tissues (barely 1 wipe before being discarded) I'm willing to take the risk. TBF I used cloth nappies so I can handle gross washing.

Kreepture · 07/10/2025 10:10

yeah, i despise cloth hankies, like on a level i cannot describe.

Its a mix of my mothers own revulsion from her dad being a brass polisher and his hankies being full of black snot soaking in the sink growing up, and my older brothers habit of leaving his crusty hankies stuffed down the couch cushions for others to find when we were little.

I would happily burn every single one in existence.

If your nose is sore, use aloe infused tissues.

longapple · 07/10/2025 10:11

We have cloth hankies in pockets for occasional nose wiping and hay fever season, and packets of tissues for any coldy nose blowing which go in the bin or in a plastic bag if no bin. Works well for us, no gross crusty hankies and no tissues ever go in pockets. The worst thing that happens is we occasionally end up with a white hanky in a dark wash.

Nannyfannybanny · 07/10/2025 10:13

That will teach you not to forget to check pockets 🤣🤣. When money was paper, I ended up washing a lot,a whole wallet once!

Mistyglade · 07/10/2025 10:14

Can we say the same for pantyliners. Blush

Not my job to check pockets. You check your own pockets in this house!

That would surely be an awful lots of laundry.....and do you iron hankies? My mum always insisted, partly becuase it was scruffy not to and partly because of the sanitisation of the hot iron.
