Was my colleague rude?

Would you find this rude?

I work on a reception desk. I’ve not worked there for very long. Someone came and asked me a question. And I’m still trying to gain confidence in the role but I knew the answer, so I started speaking to answer their question. Looking back, I probably was giving a bit of a long winded way of answering. But instead of just letting me talk, my colleague interrupted me and answered for me, in quite a snappy way. Was this rude? I keep feeling my confidence get lower and lower.

It's hard to tell. Why were you going all the way round the houses instead of being direct. Perhaps you colleague could sense the customer getting annoyed?

Don’t let others crush you so easily OP! Whether you were long winded or not they were rude, there’s usually a way to jump in/cut things short which isn’t abrupt and grumpy.

Work on building your confidence yourself - you cannot rely on others for that. Whether someone else is snappy or not mustn’t undermine you, you can’t let it - roll your eyes at the most.

Believe in yourself. Even if you were being a little long winded, so what?! It’s hardly a crime. Love yourself!

It's hard to tell if they were rude or helpful really without being there.

But a simple "It's ok Barbara, I've got this, thanks" might help in future.

Yes, I think your colleague was rude.

Some people have no patience!

Impossible to know if they asked a question thats a simple one word answer and you go on for 10 minutes and they're busy then they have a point but if you was 3 words in then maybe a bit rude. Is it a very busy environment like hospital or retail where they're trying to deal with something and just need to quickly sort it. Are you also sure she wasn't just think out loud like once you started talking she was like oh yes I remember now so finished your sentence

Perhaps she could see the person the OP was answering was getting confused, so she answered more concisely?
