Does anyone have a really long day?

I know this is all silly, and not likely to be true, but on tiktok there are lots of videos showing people's daily routine. They often start at 6am when they go off to work, and then after work, gym and they eventually get home at 8/9pm when they eat dinner.
I'd be a basket case if I did this. I did once have a life similar to this when I lived in a city but I'd do 2 nights like this, and I'd need a night at home before doing another two.
To be clear, I know Tiktok is all bollocks, but I find people's day to day routines really interesting, so do any of you have this type of really long day and hardly any time at home?

I have done this in my 20s and 30s, maybe part of 40s, but not anymore. I don't have that kind of energy now.

Mrsoftandhisstrangeworld · 06/10/2025 21:32

I do but it's because I work full time and have DC so I tend to do work 5-7am, school run, work 9-3, school run, dinners, clubs, baths, bed, work 8-11.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 06/10/2025 21:33

I used to start work at 7am and finish at 8/9pm in my 20s when I was ambitious and high flying. This continued into my 30s in a different career and before I had my DD. I'm now 54 and totally fucked.

But yes, TikTok is bollocks and possibly best not held up as something to aspire to.

LadyGreyjoy · 06/10/2025 21:34

I do. I get up at 6, go and muck the horses out before work, work 9-7, get home, eat dinner then bath and bed with toddler at 8, sit down for an hour to watch TV at 9 then go to bed. I work condensed hours which makes my days longer but means I only have to work four days a week so I get three days with my daughter.

This is how I feel. Sometimes just sitting on your own settee is lovely

I don't aspire to it, it just sparked me off wondering about people's routines

Yep. I'm early 50s, and that's not an unusual 'office' day for me. Up at 5.45. out the door at 6.30, office at 8.30. Leave the office about 5.30, and often pool/gym/class on my way home, about 7ish. Home between 8 & 9. I wouldn't be over the moon with doing it 5 days a week, but 3 is doable. I do still love a 9.30 bedtime sometimes, though!

JaceLancs · 06/10/2025 21:41

I’m 61 and do this twice a week as go to gym and swim with DD straight from work - I’m more of a 7am riser though
One night a week I do my food shop and deliver food to elderly DM so that’s another late night - did this tonight and by the time I’d put shopping away it was gone 9 so just made a quick stir fry - sat down with cat just now at 9.40

hopspot · 06/10/2025 21:42

I’m a teacher. I do 7.30-5.30 at work then take my children to after school activities, often helping at them myself. I regularly sit down about 9. Surely this is normal life.

Ooh this sounds like a good balance.

It is when you have younger children these days. Though I remember my parents watching TV in the evening, so not for them so much.

I was always up at 6, kids had activities, I was often going till at least 9pm. Now they are older I can have some quieter evenings. I remember baking at 8.30pm. No interest in doing that now.

These days I'm up about 6, happy to go to bed to watch TV at about 9-9.30. So long days, but less running around than when my kids were younger.

Cbeebiesismyworld · 06/10/2025 21:46

Yeah I kind of do on my work days. I work 12 hour shifts with an hours commute. So up at 5.45, leave the house at 6.45, work 8-8 and home 9.30pm ish. But that’s only 4 days a week. The other days I spend cooking, cleaning and taxiing the children😂

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 06/10/2025 21:46

I still do this and I want to pack it in, but I can't afford to. I'm convinced this generation is going to have a shorter life expectancy. I guess we don't need a pension if we're going to croak before we qualify.

UnhappyHobbit · 06/10/2025 21:47

No I don’t. When I get up really early to go to the airport I’m always amazed how people are up and commuting or when lights are on in some houses we pass by. There’s an early commuting life that I have no knowledge about.

Muffsies · 06/10/2025 21:47

I have two jobs (saving for early retirement) one full time, one self-employment. So two days per week I stay at the office and work on my second job until about 7:30, then cycle 7.5 miles back home.

Agreeing with the above. Am 54 - up at 630, out the door 720am, back by 2. Gym and running. Kids dinner etc then work again 7 to 9. By Friday I'm doubly funked!

Never felt so tired as now but then I work in a school.

whattheysay · 06/10/2025 21:54

I wake up between 5 and 6 then I’m on the go all day, work, cleaning, dogs, cooking, washing..6pm i am done and go to bed to watch tv and lie down. It helps I work from home and dc are grown up. I am 50

gorgeezra · 06/10/2025 21:57

Before I moved house, I had says like this frequently - would leave the house about 06.30, be at work for 08.30, finish at 17.30 and then go out, either socially or to the gym. Would usually be back home by about 22.30 and by that point it was time for bed! Now that I’ve moved house I only have a very short commute and now don’t have to travel 90 minutes minimum to see my friends!

Hiphopboppertybop99 · 06/10/2025 21:57

I have a couple of long days a week. Up around 5.30, leave for work at 6.45 and work 7.15 - 3pm. Then school run and kids after school activities which don't finish until 7 - 7.30pm. Home, tea, homework, shower and bed usually by 9-9.30. It's hard work and I wouldn't be able to manage this 5 nights a week but just about coping with 2 nights a week.

JockTamsonsBairns · 06/10/2025 21:59

For the past nine days, I've worked 7am-10pm, with a half hour commute each end.
I'm 52, and I'm absolutely knackered - but, needs must. We're hideously short staffed, and I need the money.

I'm a care worker.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/10/2025 21:59

Sounds miserable to me, my longest day is a Thursday when I work 8.30-5.30 and then go straight to a Pilates class for an hour.

I also have to fit in sorting dinner and walking the dog so don’t stop until 9pm ish.

Once a week is more than enough.

miserableandworried · 06/10/2025 22:05

I wish I was like you lot!

I can’t get up before 8.00 and I’d love to be an early riser, but I’m a night owl.

coxesorangepippin · 06/10/2025 22:08

No I don't thank god

CheeseWisely · 06/10/2025 22:08

I have a friend who does this, in work for 8am until often 8pm and then the gym before home to dinner and life admin. She’s early-30s, high flying in the city and no DC though, and raking in the rewards. More power to her. I could not be arsed, even at her age.

I’m a night owl too, but I have no choice but to be up at 6am (that’s when my disabled child wakes, so I care for him then commute to work). It’s hard when you’re working against your natural body clock.
