Mounjaro - hair loss and already fine hair

I’m posting here for traffic because I need some advice!

I have always had finer hair. I would say it got worse when I went to university, but looking back that was probably a combo of poor diet and stress.

At the start of last year I got hair extensions. I told my hairdresser I was insecure about how fine my hair was and she took that into account.

I was set up with all the right products to keep them from snapping etc etc., and went on my way. I was very explicit with her that I was on the weight loss jabs and I knew they could affect my hair, and she made sure I was on the right supplements etc.

I had them taken out at the start of the year for a CT scan and noticed it felt a lot finer, but I think that was more me being insecure.

I then had them out at the start of summer for surgery and it felt noticeably better to me. when I got my extensions refitted she told me it had got a lot finer on one side, and she gave me a whole new regime - new supplements, a hair serum (which admittedly has worked!) and a whole new shampoo, conditioner, and told me if she didn’t know I was on the jabs she would be telling me to go to my doctor.

the timing of this coincided with them rebranding to use a different brand of hair products. My entire new routine was from that brand.

I’ve just taken a look at it all properly (I didn’t really before because I was really knocked by recovery from the surgery) and it’s all anti-breakage stuff! So the same products just from a different brand.

ive been using the glowwa supplements (which do really seem to be working. My nails are growing really well and my hair is shedding a lot less!) and the kerastase range. I really want to switch to the L’Oréal growth booster range as it’s apparently all the same active ingredients as the kerastase serum, but a lot cheaper. For those on the jabs, what have you been using?

You know that no shampoo or conditioner or serum is actually going to make your hair any better, right? Hair is already 'dead' once it's emerged from the scalp. Might make your hair look a little thicker by coating it, but that's it.
There is no actual scientific evidence that biotin or any other supplements actually make any difference, any more than a decent balanced diet can achieve.
Unfortunately the combo of weight loss jabs and extentions is likely to just make your hair worse. It won't hurt to try whatever products you wish but it sounds like the most benefit is to your hairdresser's wallet!

Look up skin and me they do hair treatments .

Be aware topical minoxidil is toxic to pets you need to do the oral only

Get a full blood panel and ferritin checked

The serum contains an ingredient similar to minoxidil which does actually prevent hair fall :)

My hair salon’s owners (who’ve won British/London Hairdresser of the Year multiple times) worked with Kerastase on the development of the Genesis range and in 30+ years of being a client, it’s the only product they have ever recommended to me. And they were right. It really does make a visible difference. But you have to use it consistently. (I’ve found lookfantastic is the cheapest place to buy it - wait until they have an offer on though).

Personally I wouldn’t take the risk of swapping to a cheaper version. But with fine fragile hair, I also wouldn’t be getting hair extensions as they are absolutely going to trash your hair no matter how careful you are.
