To think forgiveness is overrated and too often used to shut people up?

People say “forgive for your own peace” but let’s be honest, it mostly benefits the person who hurt you.

I'm not a forgiver but I am a ghoster. I find it easier to pity them and cut them out completely and move on.

In what way does not forgiving someone negatively impact them? I don’t really follow.

I think what people mean by this is that if you stay stuck nurturing bitterness and resentment, you spend more energy dwelling on past hurts than investing in your present and future happiness. You’re stuck in the trauma or grievance.

They don’t mean you can only be happy if you are reconciled with someone who abused you, or feel warm and fuzzy towards your childhood bully.

(Anyone who does mean this is dodgy and best avoided)
